tidal power

CONTENTS

01 pros/cons 02 types

03 where 04 reliance
pros/cons
there are many pros to tidal power being that it
is a renewable energy source. but like every
energy source there are cons as well.
repair cost

pros tidal energy makes sustainable

energy available to masses
because it has a low repair
cost
minimally invasive
doesn’t create visual
pollution
power amount

tidal turbines are 80%

effective, which is more
.

then other traditional clean

energy sources
cons
locations
there are very few dependant on
places this can be currents
initial cost available because it
tidal power is dependant
needs to be by
on currents which can
the cost to put in oceans.
very easily changes
tidal power is
causing huge rises or
expensive
drops in power produced
2
types
there are three main types of
tidal power
lagoon
a tidal lagoon uses gates that open
and close with the tides to create a
streams pool that then works like a dam to
barrages turn turbines
a turbine is placed
barrages use a large in a tide stream and
dam to generate generates power
electricity. similarly to wind
turbines
all of these types use magnets to
generate power
3
where
there are tidal energy
plants all over the world,
for our purposes, we will be
focusing only on the main
ones
main places

● South Korea
● France
● UK
● Canada
what is our reliance on
tidal energy?
about ten percent of our world’s energy
comes from tidal power. tidal energy is only
used in one place in canada right now; the
station is in nova scotia, in the bay of fundy.
there are many high-speed devices all over
the world that produce tidal energy but the
highest producer of tidal energy is south
Korea. It is transported by cable to shore.

Estimated terawatt-hours per year
(a terawatt is a unit of measure for power
that is equal to one trillion watts)
