The Hunger Games is a trilogy by
American writer Susan Collins.
The trilogy includes novels: "The
Hunger Games" in 2008,
"Catching Fire" in 2009 and
"Mockingjay" in 2010. In a short
time, the books of the trilogy
became bestsellers, the first two
novels were on the list of best-
selling books in the United States
for almost two years. Soon they
made a film based on the trilogy.
The film based on the first novel
was released on March 22, 2012.
The rules of the Hunger Games The rules of the
games are simple: two children (a girl and a boy)
between the ages of 12 and 18 are selected from each
district by drawing lots (the so-called Harvest
ceremony), who, among the 24 participants (two from
each district), become tributes to the survival reality
show players. The event is held in the arena, where
every step of the tributes is monitored by numerous
video cameras, the events are broadcast throughout
the country. Only one tribute can win, that is, survive.
To become a tribute to the Hunger Games, it is
necessary that a ticket with your name is drawn
from among all the others. Remarkably, the
number of tickets for each potential tribute
depends on its age, the older the child, the more
tickets with his name are included in the draw.
Also in the districts there is a promotion,
according to which for additional tickets you
can get an annual food ration for the whole
family.
Kitniss was an excellent archer. This
gave her a slight advantage over the rest
of the tributes. Katniss Everdeen is the
main character of the trilogy, on whose
behalf the narrative is conducted. He
lives in District 12 with his mother and
younger sister Prim. When Katniss was
10 years old, her father died in an
accident at a coal mine, as a result of
which Katniss was forced to take on the
role of breadwinner and miner, engaged,
contrary to Capitol prohibitions, hunting
and gathering outside the district.
Pete is secretly in love with Kitniss. Pete
Mellark is the sixteen-year-old son of a baker,
the second tribute of District 12, and a
classmate of Katniss. From the age of five,
Pete is secretly in love with Katniss (despite
the fact that Pete and Katniss studied in the
same class, they were not friends and
practically did not communicate, since Pete
belonged to the children of wealthy merchants,
and Katniss to children from Slag, the poorest
area of District 12).
Gail Kitniss's best friend Gail Hawthorne is an
eighteen-year-old boy from Katniss's hometown, her
best friend, with whom she hunted together, collected
edible plants. With similar personalities, Gail and
Katniss agreed to always take care of each other's
families. Gail has long been in love with Katniss, he
even offered her to escape from the district to avoid
the draw.

However, the first part of The Hunger Games
concludes with an open ending and leaves
viewers waiting for further developments. The
fate of Kitniss, the resistance and Panem
himself remains unclear, but the rebellion and
the fight for freedom continue.
When only a few contestants remain, the game
organisers announce a rule allowing two
contestants from the same county to win
together. Kitniss and Peeta decide to play by
this rule and plan a joint suicide to force the
Capitol to change the rules of the game. But at
the last minute, the rules change and only one
contestant can win.
In the epic finale of the first part of The Hunger
Games, Kitniss and her allies reach the centre of
the Capitol, where they confront President
Snow and his closest associates. In a final
battle, Kitniss attempts to capture President
Snow to bring him to justice for his crimes
against Panem.
