IT Report Overview
My IT placement was at A & As Skitech Solar Engineering Company, it is located at Ikirun -
Osogbo road, Osun State.

My aims and objectives:

• To acquire Engineering practical experience and skills in the real-world

• To skill up myself by facing real world problems and solving it with Engineering
• To navigate through the different disciplines in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
• To gain experience from Experienced Engineers in the field
Definition of Solar Energy

1 Definition
Solar energy is heat and radiant light from the Sun that can be harnessed

with technologies such as solar power (which is used to generate electricity) .

2 A glance through the system

As a renewable and clean Energy resource, solar can be used as a

replacement for fossil fuels, producing heat, creating chemical reactions and

generating electricity. Solar energy technology can be built flexibly at scale

and allows the energy that is collected to be stored for later use.

5 Load Consideration
Solar Panel Type and Rating
Solar panels come in various types, including monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and
thin-film.
Monocrystalline panels offer high efficiency, while polycrystalline panels are cost-
effective. Thin-film panels provide flexibility.
Solar panels are rated by wattage, indicating their power output under standard
conditions. Higher-rated panels generate more electricity, influencing their suitability
for different applications and energy needs.
Battery Types and Rating
Batteries used in solar systems vary in types, including lead-acid, lithium-ion, and gel batteries. Lead-acid batteries are cost-
effective but have lower energy density and it includes Dry Cell battery and Tubular battery, while lithium-ion batteries offer
higher energy density and longer lifespan but come at a higher cost.
Gel batteries provide a maintenance-free option.
Battery rating is expressed in ampere-hours (Ah) or kilowatt-hours (kWh), representing their capacity to store energy. Higher-
rated batteries store more energy, impacting the system's ability to meet power demands and ensuring reliable energy storage
for different applications.

Charge Controller type and selection

Charge controllers play a crucial role in managing the charging process in solar power systems.
There are two main types of charge controllers: PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and MPPT
(Maximum Power Point Tracking).
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) Charge Controllers:
•Regulates the charging by rapidly switching the solar panels on and off to maintain a constant voltage.
•Cost-effective and suitable for smaller solar systems.
•Simple design and effective for basic applications.

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) Charge Controllers:

•Maximizes solar panel efficiency by adjusting the operating point to the maximum power point.
•Ideal for larger and more complex solar systems, especially in areas with variable sunlight conditions.
•Offers higher efficiency and better performance, resulting in increased energy harvest.
Inverter and KVA Consideration

An inverter is a device in a solar power system that converts direct current (DC) electricity produced by solar panels into
alternating current (AC) electricity, which is suitable for powering household appliances and connecting to the electrical grid. It
plays a key role in enabling the utilization of solar-generated power for various applications, providing a seamless transition
between renewable energy sources and conventional electrical systems. Inverters are available in different types, including grid-
tied, off-grid, and hybrid inverters, each designed to meet specific system requirements and applications.
