Components of Electric Drives, Advantages of Electric
driven, Review of characteristics and speed control of d.c. and
a.c. motors
U2:: DYNAMICS OF ELECTRIC DRIVES : Fundamental
torque equation, Speed-torque conventions and multi-
quadrant operation, Equivalent values of drive parameters,
Components of load torques, Nature and Classification of
load torques, Calculation of time and energy-loss in transient
operations, Criteria for steady state stability, Load
equalization, Thermal model of motor for heating and
cooling, Classes of motor duty, Determination of motor
rating, Frequency of operation of motors subjected to
intermittent loads
