IPR Awards in India

• India have several awards and recognitions related to intellectual


property rights (IPR) and innovation. These awards are often given by
government bodies, industry associations, and non-profit organizations
to individuals, companies, and institutions for their contributions in
the field of intellectual property and innovation.
1. National Intellectual Property Awards
2. FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and
Industry) Intellectual Property Awards
3. CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) Industrial Intellectual
Property Awards
NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AWARDS

• National IP awards are organized by the Office of the Controller


General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM), which
operates under the Department for Promotion of Industry and
Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,
Government of India.. The main criteria of evaluation for these
awards are Patent Applications, Grants and Commercialization.
• National IP Awards are intended to encourage innovation and
management of intellectual property portfolio that influences the
success of the innovation in different industry segments.
ELIGIBILITY
• An applicant for IP Award should be either Individual or Legal Entity of Indian
nationality.
• Legal Entity must be an Indian Industry (start up, micro, small, medium, large),
firms and societies registered in India; Indian subsidiary of a Transnational
Corporation; Indian Academic Institutions and R&D Institutions registered as a
legal entity in India, in both private and public sector.
• The legal Entity applying for award under the categories should be a standalone
institution and it should state the details of patent applications filed / granted in
its own name only
• For all categories of applicants, the IP filed/granted/registered in India shall be
given more weightage than in other countries.
DIFFERENT CATEGORIES
BROAD PARAMETERS FOR SELECTION
• Broad parameters for selection: The awards are not given solely on
the basis of number of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) registered /
granted but the utilization of such IPRs as a strategic tool in
commerce & industry is also taken into consideration.
• The following parameters will be considered as relevant:
1. Number of IPRs filed / granted / registered
2. Leveraging of IPRs for achieving commercial goals (manufacturing,
licensing, launching of new products / processes associated with
granted / registered IPRs, marketing / export etc.)
JURY FOR THE AWARDS
• Awardees will be selected by a jury comprising of professionals from diverse fields
such as:
• i. Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks
• ii. IP professionals
• iii. Industry association
• iv. Academia
• v. R&D professionals
• vi. Representative(s) of the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India
• vii. Representative(s) of the Other Government Institution
• viii. DPIIT - IPR Chair
• ix. Technology & IP The Jury will have the righ
Winners of National IP Awards 2021 &2022
• Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has won the National IP Award 2021 & 2022
in the category ‘Top Indian Company for Creating Brand in India and Abroad’ .
• Samsung R&D Institute – Bangalore has been won the National IP Award
2021 and 2022 by the Government of India in the category of top public
limited company/private limited company for patents filing, grant and
commercialization in India: Services Sector.
• Indian Institute of Technology , Madras (IIT Madras) has been conferred the
‘National Intellectual Property Awards 2021 and 2022’ by the Government of
India for being the top Indian Academic Institution for patents filing, grants
and commercialization .
• Venture Center, a leading science-based business incubator has been
declared the winner of the National Intellectual Property Awards 2021 & 2022
under the category of "Best Incubator for Nurturing IP".
