Trigonometry
 Introduction
 Angles and Triangles
 Angle Measurements
 Conversion of Angle Units
Trigonometry
 is a branch of mathematics that studies relationship
between side lengths and angles of triangles.
 concerned with specific functions of angles and
their application to calculations.
Angle
 is a figure formed by two rays meeting at a
common end points.
Triangle
 is a polygon with three edges and three vertices
Point ( . )
 isa location, represented by a dot, has no size, no length,
no width and no depth
Line Segment ( )
 the shortest distance between two points
Ray ( )
a line with a single endpoint that extends indefinitely in
one direction
Line ( )
a straight one directional figure that has no thickness and
extends endlessly in both direction
Angle Measurement
Degree (0)
 is a measurement of a plane angle in which one full
rotation is 360 degrees
 is 1/360th of a complete rotation around a circle.
Radian (rad)
 is a unit for measure of an angle
 it is used instead of degrees
 is the measure of the central angle subtended by an
arc of a circle whose length is equal to the radius of
the circle.
1 complete revolution: 3600 = 2π rad
1/2 revolution: 1800 = π rad

Conversion of Units
π rad = 1800 10 = 60’
3.14 rad = 1800 1’ = 60”
1 rad = 57.30 10 =
3600”
π rad = 3.14 rad Note: minute (‘)

second (“)
Example. Convert the following angle measurements
1. 60.250 => DMS
600
0.25 X 60 = 15’ 15’
60.250 = 600 15’ Ans.
2. 150.480 => DMS
1500

0.48 X 60 = 28.8’ 28’

0.8 X 60 = 48” 48”
150.480 = 1500 28’48” Ans.
Example. Convert the following angle measurements
3. 450 45’ => Degree
450
45/60 = 0.75 0.750
45.750
450 45’= 45.750 Ans.
4. 250 30’ 30” => Degree
250
30/60 = 0.5 0.50
30/3600 = 0.0083 0.00830
25.50830
250 30’ 30” = 25.50830 Ans.
Example. Convert the following angle measurements
5. 1350 => π rad
1350 X π rad
1800
3/4 π rad Ans.
6. 4500 => π rad
4500 X π rad
1800
5/2 π rad Ans.
Example. Convert the following angle measurements
7. 3π rad => Degrees
