INTRODUCTION
We defined marvel as something that makes us wonder .
Wonder that something unique ,astonishing.
The wonderful monument which we are able to see in today’s modern and
globalized world are due to technological advancement and presence of
creative competitive and well educated engineer.
We are going to discuss a modern man made marvel of the world such as
 WORLD TRADE CENTRE
 MILLAU VIADUCT
 PALM ISLANDS
 THREE GEORGE DAM
 BURJ KHALIFA
World Trade Centre
It was a large complex of seven buildings in the financial district of lower
Manhattan in New York city and it opened on April 4,1973.
What is Trade centre ?
It is an apolitical organization that can be located in any counter . It
supplies business with access to international trade services and facilities
and seek to simplify and stimulate trade by bringing to together the office
of government and industry that serve and carry trade .
In civil engineering point of view
The core complex was built between 1966 and 1975 at cost 400 million.
The idea suggest by David Rockfeller and nelson .The complex designed
by Minoru Yamasaki .
It was an icon in New York city.
It was an perfect example of civil engineering and architecture creativity ,
this type of wonderful and beautiful monument provide inspirational
message to all engineers to do something extraordinary thing for which
human kind never able to forget engineers.
 The World centre experienced several major crime terrorist incident .
Including fire 13 Feb. 1975, also bombing 26 Feb. 1993 and a bank
robbery on January 1998.
And finally faced a huge and devasted terrorist attack on 9/11/2001 by Al-
Qaeda and mastermind behind this dusted Ly event was Osama Bin
Laden. It was an one of the most horrid event world history.
Millau Viaduct
• Millau viaduct is cable – stayed bridge in France over a valley of the river Tarn
near Millau . It is tallest bridge in the world with one of its masts as tall as 343
metres. Its designers are the French structural engineer Michael Virlogeux and
British architect British architect Norman Foster
• This bridge broke several records. It has the highest pylon in the world (245m and
221m) the highest bridge tower in the world (343m) and the highest road bridge
deck in Europe(270m).
PALM ISLAND

What is Palm Island?

It represents a group of artificial island that are categorized
into three , they are Palm Jumeriah , Palm Jebel Ali, Palm
Deirah.
Approx 94 million cubic meters of sand and 5.5 million cubic
metres of rock was used in making this island. And it has
crescent surrounding it that acts as a breakthrough to protect
island from waves.
Nakheel is the real estate developer of these artificial islands.
Three George Dam
It is a hydraulic power plant in Yi Chang . It spans the Yangtze
river by the town of Sandouping, in Yiling District , Yi Chang ,
Hubei province, Central China ,downstream of the three George .
It has been the world’s largest power station in terms of
installed capacity (22,500 mw) since 2012. The dam generates on
average 95± 20 Twh of electricity per cycle , depending on
annual amount of precipitation in the river basin. Its purpose is
for flood control, power, navigation . It was constructed on
December 14, 1992 and open in the year 2003. It construction is
203 billion. Its owner name in China is Yangtze power.
BURJ KHALIFA
• WORLD TALLEST TOWER AT 828 METERS:
Described as a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ the Burj Khalifa,
developed by Emaar Properties, is the world’s tallest building at 828
meters high. The 200 plus storey Burj has 160 habitable levels, more than
any building in the world.
• 22 MILLION MAN HOURS TO BUILD:
That’s It took six years to build the tower. Construction started in
January 2004 and it was officially inaugurated in January 2010.
• RECORD-BREAKING MATERIALS:
Burj Khalifa used a record-breaking 330,000 cubic meters of concrete;
39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square meters of glass; and
15,500 square meters of embossed stainless steel.
Conclusion
Engineering marvels not only solve problems in the engineering
field, but they also leave a sight to behold. Transportation
engineering marvels reduce congestion, and superstructures
improve land use in major cities. The strides made by engineers
in the modern-day only show that innovations will only keep
increasing with time.
