INTRODUCTION
The Philippines has experienced several threats to its food security over the

past few years. Food supply has been continuously affected by natural calamities that

have made crops unusable, while problems caused by inadequate infrastructure have

posed an unnecessary and difficult challenge to farmers (Suansing, 2017).

That’s why the researchers chose to undertake this study to see how the plants

would respond to both artificial and natural lighting, namely light-emitting diode (LED)

lights, and fluorescent lights to see whether artificial light may be used as a

replacement for natural light to serve to increase food output which would prevent

further food shortage.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE
STUDY
This study is anchored on Bautista et al. (2020) study, titled
“Growing Plant using Four Different Lighting Systems: An
Experimental Study”.
VARIABLES:
• fluorescent lighting set-up
• Incandescent lighting set-up
• LED lighting set-up
• sunlight.
• petsay seeds (Barbarea derchiensis L. ssp. pekinensis)
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aimed to determine the effects of artificial lighting (LED and

Fluorescent lights) on the plant growth of Scallion Water spinach (Ipomoea

aquatica) and (Allium fistulosum). Specifically, it sought to answer the

following questions:

1. What is the plant growth condition of Water Spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) and

Scallion (Allium fistulosum) when exposed to artificial lighting in terms of:

a. height of the plant;

b. the number of leaves; and

c. plant's weight?

SYNTHESIS OF THE REVIEW
2. Which artificial lighting is the best alternative for sunlight in

terms of growing plants?

3. Is there a significant difference in the growth condition of

Water Spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) and Scallions (Allium

fistulosum) when exposed to different types of lighting?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Farmers. Providing an innovative technique for growing plants with the use of

artificial lighting, as well as giving them appropriate knowledge about the

effects it has on plants.

Department of Agriculture (DA). act as their guide in improving food

production in the country as well as preventing and solving food shortages.

Future researchers. This study will be used as a reference to accomplish their

research, as well as to generate new insights and conduct new innovative

ideas.
METHODS
• RESEARCH DESIGN: RCBD
DATA ANALYSIS

• Mean and Standard Deviation. These tools were utilized to determine the
results of Allium fistulosum and Ipomoea aquatica height, growth, and
weight under the use of artificial lighting (LED and fluorescent lights) and
natural lighting.

• TWO–WAY ANOVA without replication. The use of ANOVA to treat the

variables can statistically determine the differences between them and for

a further statistical approach, the growth, height, and weight of the plants

(scallions and water spinach) will be evaluated through ANOVA treatment.
