Nature and Inquiry of Research

Research is defined as the scientific investigation of

phenomena which includes collection, presentation, analysis
and interpretation of facts that lines an individual‘s speculation
with reality.

Solutions to problems must be based on knowledge not on

mere beliefs, guesses or theories. In research a systematic
and well-planned procedure is required to meet the need in
order that information is acquired and evaluate its accuracy
and effectiveness. It is a process of inquiring.
Nature and Inquiry of Research
I n q u i r y is defined as “a seeking for truth, information or
knowledge”. It is a problem solving technique.

Inquiry is a term that is synonymous with the word

‘investigation’.

When you inquire or investigate, you tend to ask questions to

probe or examine something to request for truth, information,
or knowledge.
Importance of Research
Research directs us to inquire about the right information by
conducting further investigation of the actual condition.

It leads us to be cautious in giving results

and findings by proving lies and supporting the truth.

Research empowers us with knowledge.

It help us discovers new things and issues in life.

Types of Research Design

1. Narrative Qualitative Research

The life stories of individuals as described by their own
narratives are often the focus of this qualitative research.

Example:
Inner Me: “Students 'Perceptions Regarding Their
Professional Development Experiences”
Types of Research Design

2. Phenomenological Qualitative Research

This qualitative phenomenological research focuses on the
phenomena (lived experiences) that have influenced an
individual.
Example:
You and I: “A Detailed Study of Survivors Who Have Lost
Loved Ones During The Pandemic”
Types of Research Design

3. Grounded Theory Qualitative Research

This qualitative research allows for the investigation of a
specific phenomenon or process and the development of new
theories based on the collection and analysis of real-world
data.
Example:
Being There: “Study of Student Perceptions of Instructor
Presence in Online Classes”
Types of Research Design

4. Ethnographic Qualitative Research

This is a qualitative research in which researchers observe
and/or interact with investigation participants in their natural
setting.

Example:
A Road To Discovery: “Masculinities and Eating Practices In
The Philippines”
Types of Qualitative Research
(Qualitative Research Design)
5. Case Study Qualitative Research
This qualitative research is an in-depth examination of a
specific subject, such as a person, group, or phenomenon.

Example:
Getting To Know: “Commuters Satisfactions Towards The
Grab Drivers In Davao City”
Research Topics
A research topic is a subject or issue that a researcher is
interested in when conducting research.

A well-defined research topic is the starting point of

every successful research project. Choosing a topic is an
ongoing process by which researchers explore, define,
and refine their ideas.
How To Formulate Research Topics

1. Choose a topic that interest you the most.

2. Read related articles about your chosen subtopics.
3. Observe and Look Around and Look for a Problem
4. You read published articles or previously conducted
research study.
How To Formulate Research Title

It must contain a 12-15 words only.

-American Psychological Association-
Give a clear idea of the drafted research title.
-Easy or Hard to Understand-
State the variables being studied.
-Independent Variable-
Place the elements of words in proper order.
-Simple but not Easy to Understand-
