WHAT IS EDTECH? 3

EDUCATION- from the Greek word paideia [learning or a system

of education and training
in classical Greek and Hellenestic]
-process of acquiring knowledge /information

TECHNOLOGY- from the Greek word techne [systematic use of

knowledge for intelligent
human action-Aristotle]
- The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DEFINITION

-the theory and practice of design, development, utilization,
management, evaluation, and
use of appropriate technological processes and resources for learning.
DOMAIN 1: DESIGN 4

✓ Establishing a framework to guide in planning

the educational technology.

✓ Design is the process of specifying conditions

for learning. The purpose of design is to create
strategies and products at the macro level, such
as programs and curricula, and at the micro level,
such as lessons and
modules.
SUB CATEGORIES OF DOMAIN 1 5

• Analysis is the process of defining what is to be learned and whose going

to learn.

• Design is the process of outlining the overall structure and format of the
learning experience.

• Development is the process of authoring and producing the instructional

materials.

• Implementation is actually using the materials and strategies in context .

• Evaluation is the process of determining the adequacy of the instruction.

While ISD may seem to include all the other domains, design emphasizes
the parts and the whole of the planning function.
WHERE TO USE ADDIE MODEL? 6

❖ Instructional Strategies
• are specifications for selecting and sequencing events and
activities within a lesson. A designer uses instructional
strategy theories as principles for instruction, and chooses
them based on the learning situation, learning environment,
learning task and learner. Again, the focus is on the choice
and planning of a strategy to fit the situation.

❖ Learner’s Characteristics
• Each learner has past experiences or even innate qualities
that impact the effectiveness of a learning process. A designer
uses theory and research about learner characteristics to plan
for modifications in instruction to support increased
effectiveness for that learner or one like him/her.
DOMAIN 2: DEVELOPMENT 7

✓ Using the design or framework, materials are

produced and developed.

✓ Development is the process of translating the

design specifications into physical form. It
includes hardware, software, visual and auditory
materials, as well as the programs or packages
which integrate the various parts. The sub-
categories of the development domain reflect
chronological changes in technology, with new
overlapping but not replacing old.
✓ PRINT TECHNOLOGIES
✓ AUDIO TECHNOLOGIES
✓ STILL VISUALS
✓ AUDIO-VISUAL TECHNOLOGIES
✓ ICTs
✓ Electronic Technologies
✓ Integrated Technologies
DOMAIN 3: UTILIZATION 9

• Utilization is the act of using processes and resources for

learning. Bringing about change, through instructional
innovation is incorporated within this domain. Those engaged
in utilization are responsible for matching learners with
specific materials and activities, preparing learners for
interacting with the selected materials and activities, providing
guidance during interaction, providing for assessment of the
results, and incorporating this usage into the continuing
procedures of the organization.
✓ Sub Categories:
✓ MEDIA UTILIZATION
✓ IMPLEMENTATION & INSTITUTIONALIZATION
✓ POLICIES AND REGULATION
DOMAIN 4: MANAGEMENT 10

• Starts when the materials are designed. It is undertaken during

the material development, and utilization up to monitoring and
evaluation of the usefulness and worth of the materials. It
ensures management of resources and delivery systems.
Management also includes the use of computer laboratory,
checking of electrical connections, and sharing of materials
among teachers and staff of the school.
• Sub Categories
-Project Management
-Resources Management
-Management of Delivery System
-Diffusion of Innovation
DOMAIN 5: EVALUATION 11

• This phase shows the different processes

involved in judging the worth of the materials
produced. The teacher and the students use a
variety of evaluation instruments depending
on the skill or knowledge being evaluated like
paper-and-pencil test for knowledge, an
attitude scale for attitudes and feelings, and
performance test for skills. The Teacher also
uses rubrics, checklist, rating scale, and
authentic assessments.
