PURPOSE

To explain social function, generic

structure and language features of
descriptive text about people, animal, in
particular things.
How does this house look?

It looks calm.
It is simple.

It is small.
Descriptive of a Backpack
My New Backpack

I have a new backpack. Its colours are

red and grey. I always bring it when I
go to school. It is made of strong
fabric.
There are some parts of my
backpack. The first is the pocket. I put
my money and my library card in the
pocket. The second part is the main
part. I put my books and pencil case in
this part. The third part is a small
pocket at the left side of the
backpack. I keep a bottle of water in
this pocket.
 What is Descriptive Text?
Descriptive text is a text that explains
about a person, animal or an object is like,
whether its form, its amount and others.

The purpose of the descriptive text is clear,

that is to describe a person, animal or an
object, either abstract or concrete.
Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
# Identification: (contains about the
introduction of a person, place, animal or
object will be described.)

# Description: contains a description of

something such as animal, things, place or
person by describing its forms, colors, or
anything related to what the writer describe.
 My New Backpack
I have a new backpack. Its colours
are red and grey. I always bring it Identification
when I go to school. It is made of

 Language Feature of Descriptive Text
Language feature are the language elements found in a text.
– Specific participant : has a certain object, for example: Lombongo
waterfall, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim.

– The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for
example: a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in
Gorontalo, etc.

– The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple
present because it tells the fact of the object described.

– Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep,
walk, cut, etc….
 Exercise!
# Create 3 groups to determine the image to be described.

# Teachers distribute tasks to 3 groups.

# After that, you have to complete the task on your group.

If possible, each of group present it in front of the class.

ROOM/KITCHEN

This is my kitchen as you

can see. I usually go to the
kitchen if I feel hungry and
wanna cook something.
