GROUP#5
OBJECTIVES:
• Induce magnetism in a magnetic
material.
2
MATERIALS:
• Bar magnet

GUIDE
QUESTIONS:
Q1. What happens if you bring two iron nails close to (or
touching) each other?
Q2. if you bring a bar magnet close to (or touching) the first iron
nail, can the first iron nail attract and lift second nail? A third nail?
Q3. What happens if vary/change the distance between the
magnet and nail/s?
Q4. If the north pole of the bar magnet suspends the first nail by
attraction, what is then the nail/s polarity of induced magnetism
in the indicated regions? WHY?
4
ANWERS
1. Since both the nails are made up of the same material iron and iron has no
reaction to the same metal.
2. When a bar magnet brought close to or touching, the first iron nail makes the
first iron nail capable to attract and lift the second nail and another or so. It only
depends on the magnet's strength.
3. If you vary or change the distance between the magnet and the nail, the
strength of the magnetic field experienced by the nail will also change. The
closer the magnet is to the nail, the stronger the magnetic field and the stronger
the induced magnetism in the nail.
4. The nails polarity will be opposite at each other. Ex. The north magnet
suspend the first magnet, the upper part of nail that touches the magnet will
become south, then the lower part of the first nail will become north.

The process by which the screws become magnets is
called ,induction (ELECTRIC/MAGNETIC).
This same process is the reason why magnets ,
