PERCUSSION
INSTRUMENT?
• Musical instruments that are played by
striking them with another object.

• Chinese percussion instruments have a long


history and a sizable variety. They can be
used to highlight the rhythm in music and
create colorful tonal changes, OR can be
grouped together in ensemble playing.

钟 )
• Ancient Chinese musical instrument
consisting of a set of bronze bells, played
melodically.
• Were used as polyphonic musical
instruments
• Dated between 2,000~3,600 years old
• Hung in a wooden frame and struck with
a mallet
LUO ( 锣 )
• Any of several sizes and styles of Chinese
gong.
• The most common luo are characteristically
round and convex in shape, with edges that
are turned toward the back.
• They come in many sizes and may be
played singly or in groups; small luo of
different sizes (and therefore pitches) may be
hung together and used melodically
YUN LUO ( 雲鑼)
• Set of 10 or more gongs about 9-12cm in
diameter
• ‘cloud gongs’ , produces light sound
• Held within a wooden frame
• Existed about 650 years ago, used in
weddings / funerals
BO ( 钹 )
• Usually combined with other percussion
instruments (e.g drums & gongs)
• Produce and dynamic and rhythmic sound
• Played by striking 2 cymbals together whole
holding one in each hand
