DIRECTIONS: SOLVE
PROBLEMS INVOLVING THE
WAVELENGTH AND
FREQUENCY OF EM WAVES.
1. A wave has a frequency of 50 Hz
and a wavelength of 10 m. What is the
speed of the wave?
Given: λ = 10m and f = 50Hz
Required: Wave Speed (v)
Equation: v = fλ
Solution: v = (50 1/s)(10m)
Answer: 500 m/s
2. A wave has a frequency of 5 Hz
and a speed of 25 m/s. What is the
wavelength of the wave?
Given: f = 5Hz and v = 25m/s
Required: Wavelength (λ)
Equation: λ = v/f
Solution: λ = (25m/s)/(5 Hz)
Answer: 5m
Lastly, the amount of (3) the wave carries, the higher the
frequency of the light wave, the more energy it carries. The
higher the frequency, the shorter the (4) frequency, the (5)
The lower the its wavelength. The Electromagnetic wave
that carries greater amount of energy means it has higher (6)
and if the Electromagnetic wave have (7) lower frequency.

sentences using the word/s from
the box.

Light travels in waves. It has several properties
like (1)______ which refers to the number of
one complete wave cycles in one second.
Another is the (2)_________ of a light wave,
which refers to the distance from one crest to
another crest or one trough to another trough.
Lastly, the amount of (3)_________ the wave
carries, the higher the frequency of the light
wave, the more energy it carries.
The higher the frequency, the shorter the

that carries greater amount of energy means it
has a higher (6)__________ and if the
Electromagnetic wave has (7)______ lower

Concept: Amount of Energy carried
by the Electromagnetic waves can be
determined using the equation:
𝑬=𝒉𝒇 where
E = amount of Energy in Joules
h = Planck’s constant
= 6.63 x 10-34 J-s
f = frequency in Hertz
The amount of Energy carried by
the Electromagnetic waves is
expressed in Joules (J).
The amount of energy carried by
electromagnetic waves is directly
proportional to their frequency.
The greater the frequency of the
wave, the more energy it carried.
SAMPLE PROBLEM
The red light from a helium-neon laser has a
frequency of 4.74 x 1014 Hz. What is the
energy of one photon?
Given: f = 4.74 x 10^14 Hz
h = 6.63x10^-34 J.s
Required: Energy
Equation: E = h𝒇
Solution: E = (6.63x10^-34 J.s)(4.74 x 10^14 Hz)
Answer: E = 3.14x10-19J
