Public Speaking
Speaking is more than just using words, it requires a more complex process
of producing speech. Speaking is a useful skill that requires a lot of practice.
Meanwhile for some students, public speaking can be a bad experience. For
example, the student are afraid being laughed by their classmates if they
make a mistake when giving a speech in front of the class. The symptoms
experienced by these students’ can be classify into anxiety.
Based on the academic guidelines of the English education study program,
UIN Mahmud Yunus is one of the Islamic universities that has public speaking
courses in the fifth semester.
What are strategies used by the EFL students to reduce public speaking class
anxiety?

Research Instrument
In this research, researcher use two
questionnaires
Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety Miller and Leonard (2017) and
(PRPSA) questionnaire by Mccroskey O’Hair (2009)

Students’ Level of Anxiety Based on Gender Students’ Level of Anxiety
The highest level of anxiety is moderate with 29 From the table, were 22 students’ with low
female students’ (47%) and 9 male students’ level of anxiety, 38 students with moderate
(14%). Follow by low level of anxiety with 14 level of anxiety and 2 students of high
female students’ (22%) and 8 male students’ level of anxiety.
(13%). The lowest score is high with 1 female
students’ (2%) and 1 male students’ (2%).
