INTRODUCTION
• These displays are normally created with LCD, OLED, or led and can
be found in some Thin Film Transistors.

• The Thin Film Transistors had an active display which allows the dot
matrix to display different pixels with different colors at the same
time.
DIGITAL LED
 LED is the abbreviation for light-emitting diode.

 A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits light

when current flows through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine
with electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons.
TYPES OF LED:
 EDGE LIT LED
 FULL –ARRAY LED

• Edge-lit LEDs have LEDs around the edges of the screen, and the
light is distributed across the display. This can lead to thinner and
lighter displays but may have some uniformity issues.
• Full-array LEDs have LEDs spread out uniformly behind the entire
display, allowing for more precise local dimming and better control
over brightness and contrast.
APPLICATION OF LED:

 Picture phones and digital watches.

 Camera flashes and automotive heat lamps.
 Aviation lighting.
 Digital computers and calculators.
 Traffic signals and Burglar alarms systems.
 Microprocessors and multiplexers.
 Optical Communication.
 Indicator lamps in electric equipment.
DIGITAL LCD
• A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat-panel display or other
electronically modulated optical device that uses the light-modulating
properties of liquid crystals combined with polarizers.

• Liquid crystals do not emit light directly but instead use a backlight or
reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.
APPLICATION OF LCD:
• LCDs are commonly used for portable electronic
games, as viewfinders for digital cameras and
camcorders, in video projection systems, for
electronic billboards, as monitors for computers, and
in flat-panel televisions.
ADVANTAGES OF LCD :

 Limited viewing angle and brightness .

 It requires an additional light source .
 It consumes a lot of electricity which produces a lot of
heat
DISADVANTAGES OF LCD :

 It requires high power.

 Its preparation cost is high.
 LED is not suitable for large area display because of its
high cost.
What is the advantage of LED vs LCD?

• In most cases, an LED monitor holds the advantage due to its

longer lifespan, better picture quality, thinner design, fast response
time and more environmentally friendly construction.

• These qualities offset the higher initial price point that might have
you considering an LCD option.
DIGITAL DOT MATRIX:
• A dot matrix is a 2-dimensional patterned array, used to
represent characters, symbols and images. Most types of
modern technology use dot matrices for display of information,
including mobile phones, televisions, and printers.
APPLICATION OF DOT MATRIX:
 A dot matrix is a 2-dimensional patterned array, used to represent characters,
symbols and images.

 Most types of modern technology use dot matrices for display of information,
including mobile phones, televisions, and printers.

 The system is also used in textiles with sewing, knitting and weaving.
ADVANTAGES OF DOT MATRIX:

• With low-voltage scanning, dot-matrix LED displays

have advantages such as power saving, long service life,
low cost, high brightness, wide angle of view, long visual
range, waterproof, and numerous specifications.
DISADVANTAGES OF DOT MATRIX DISPLAY :

• NOISY

• LIMITED PRINT QUALITY

• LOW PRINTING SPEED

• LIMITED COLOUR PRINTING

CONCLUSION :

• Each type of display technology has its unique characteristics

and applications, and the choice of display depends on factors
like the intended use, size, power consumption, and image
quality requirements.

• Display technologies continue to evolve, leading to improved

visual experiences and more versatile applications.
