Design of efficient drainage system reducing current drainage system issues and increasing
efficiency
Implementing an automatic flood control system in real time
• We are using both Arduino and a PLC in this project, PLC will be used to
control the pumps and to take the sensor data and the Arduino will be used to
transfer those data to the user interface, to control the way the system runs and to
log real time sensor data and pump status.
• Each pump station consists of a pump and a float sensor to determine the
water level of that area. All the data is fed back to the PLC and a relay is energized to
turn on the pump. By collecting the data from sensor PLC decide which bypass
pump to turn on and which pump to turn off. In case the automation fails there is a
manual override with the help of Arduino and all the data will be displayed in the
control room.
• As a prototype we are making a model of a road as creating the whole system
would take a lot of resources, we are making two pump stations to show how the
system works. We are using cheap plastic sheets to make the model and small DC
pumps and PVC pipes. Although the maximum efficiency of the system would be
displayed when all the station is connected and online
•By undertaking this capstone project, we aspire to safeguard the infrastructure, protect the
communities, and preserve the natural beauty of the Maldives. Our proposal seeks to transform the
challenges posed by flooding into opportunities for sustainable development, environmental
protection, and the well-being of the people.
•We acknowledge the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure the
effectiveness, adaptability, and resilience of the implemented flood control system. By establishing a
robust framework, we can measure the system's performance, identify areas for improvement, and
adapt to changing climatic conditions, thereby ensuring its long-term success.
