academic text or an article help in identifying the
thesis statement?
 Success of any organization or company relies on the
leadership and way of managing that exist in the company. Some
managers of particular company play different main roles. The most
major roles played by managers are planning, organizing, staffing,
directing, coordinating, reporting and budgeting. Planning mainly
involves managers in setting long and short-term activities of the
company. Organizing is the aspect of setting up managers’ functions
and activities to be done by the specific group of people. All duties
mentioned above are carried out by managers at the specific level to
ensure company still remains productive.
 GROUP ACTIVITY
• Read the list of words or phrases assigned to you.
Decide which two names are general categories, then put
the rest of the words or phrases in the correct category.
• Each group is given 10 minutes to accomplish task.
• Have your output be posted on the board and be ready
for presentation.

WHAT IS AN OUTLINE?

• An outline is a direct and clear map of your essay. It

shows what each paragraph will contain, in what
order paragraphs will appear, and how all the points
fit together as a whole. Most outlines use bullet
points or numbers to arrange information and convey
points.
 TYPES OF OUTLINE
• READING OUTLINE
• get the main idea of the text
that is already written
• helps you understand the
text’s structure more critically
• better understand how a writer
connects and sequence the
information in the reading.
• WRITING OUTLINE
• a skeletal version of your
essay
• used as a guide to organize
your ideas
• Usually done before you
write the first draft of your
essay.
 • Parallelism – each heading and subheading
preserve parallel structure.
• Division – each heading should be divided into
2 or more parts
FOUR MAIN • Coordination – all the information contained in
COMPONENTS heading 1 should have the same significance as
OF EFFECTIVE the information contained in heading 2. The
OUTLINES same goes for the subheadings (which should be
less significant than the headings.
• Subordination – The information in the
headings should be more general, while the
information in the subheading should be more
specific.
IMPORTANCE OF OUTLINING A
READING TEXT
• Outlining reveals the ability to locate the main ideas, reveals the
coherence, and complexity of a text.
• Outlining involves knowing how to distinguish ideas according to
their importance, filter reading and write down the bare essentials.
• Foremost, you cannot outline something you do not understand,
thus it proves one’s understanding and comprehension of the
reading text.
