Lesson 3 Geologic Processes On Earth
PROCESSES
ON EARTH
Prepared by:
Sherie Mae Q. Lozada, RN, LPT
What is the
source of earth's
internal heat?
• The heat inside Earth moves
continents, builds mountains, and
causes earthquakes.
• Earth makes some of its own heat.
Earth cools down slowly. For over
the past several billion years, it
might have cooled a couple of
hundred degrees. Earth keeps a
nearly steady temperature because
it produces heat in its interior.
• The heat that is produced during
radioactive decay, which is the
breaking down, or disintegration of
elements like uranium in the Earth's
crust undergo radioactive decay.
• Thus, the dynamism of Earth is
attributed to its never-ending
geologic processes driven by
internal and external forces.

Weathering – the physical & chemical breakdown of rocks.
