Johnnie Walker, who after selling his father's farm,
bought a small grocery store in Kilmarnock, west
of Scotland, a region where the 20-year-old
became known selling his own whiskeys.
His son Alexander Walker continued the family business
from 1857 and in 1860 the house adopted the square
bottle design for its products.
