Set up Maya for Modular workflow
Set up character reference
• New cube, set to 2m x 1m x 1m
• Set grid snap and snap to floor
Set up floor space
• Make a cube
• Set to 5 x 0.1 x 5 – this is now your standard floor space
measurement.
Create a wall
• Duplicate floor piece.
• Grab front edge.
• Move backward to edge of floor plate
Create a reference wall cube
• Set to 5 x 5 x 5
• Press D key (set
pivot)
• Top view - > Point
Snap
• Snap to left corner.
• Front view
• Snap to bottom
corner
• Press D (turn off
set pivot)
Create a reference wall cube
• Snap to grid
• Place on grid
Set up wall
• Do the same for the pivot for the wall
• In side view, make sure it’s on the floor too (floor = dark line)
• Pull up top of wall to the same height as wall ref (if you want smaller
height each grid square is 1 meter )
Make a standard wall / then mod
• Start with a standard wall with
cornice and skirting (sci fi
theme in this case)
• Duplicate and make mods to
quickly generate modular
(fitting tightly) but unique wall
parts.
• Continue for walls and
corners, and overhangs etc
