Study skills
• Good planning gives you more free time in the end
and reduces stress;
• Developing good study skills and planning habits
will put you in charge of your own learning;
• Time management and organisational skills are
essential for success in life;
• Study skills and time management help you set
goals and achieve them.
Time Management

• Time management is straightforwardly


defined as the Management of Time in
order to make the most out of it.
Time Management Tips

• Write things down.


– Don’t rely on memory.
• Prioritise your list.
• Plan your week.
– Spend some time at the beginning of each week to plan your
schedule.
• Carry a notebook.
– Write down those great ideas and brilliant insights (capture
your thoughts).
• Learn to say no.
– Say no to low priority requests.

• Take charge of your lectures;
• Concentrate and focus on the materials;
• Listen critically;
• Connect and capture key ideas.

• Commit to class;
• Pre-read materials to be covered before
class;
• Identify areas that are difficult to
understand;
• Arrive to class early and review notes from
the previous class.

• Learning Styles:
1. Visual – learn by seeing
2. Auditory – learn by hearing
3. Kinesthetic – learn by doing
Everyone learns differently – study in ways that
are most helpful to you!
Learning Strategies

• Categorise information by grouping information into groups


of similar ideas;
• Using sequencing skills put information in a time order;
• Find the main idea in the paragraph you are reading. Find
details to support main idea. Highlight main ideas and
outline or map out information read;
• Use context clues to find the meaning of new words. Use a
dictionary if context cues don’t help;
• Use illustrations and charts in the textbook to help you
understand information read.
Conclusion

Managing time well will keep you focused,


while at the same time will allow you to exert
positive production of output in whatever you
will be doing.
