Investigating the Positive Impacts of Tree

Planting in Urban Settings: A Case Study

Background of the Study

This research aims to investigate the positive impacts of tree planting

in urban settings.Promoting sustainable urban development, improve
the well-being of urban residents and guide policy and planning
decisions for creating greener and more resilient Cities.

This research should provide enough data to support its findings. The
study should include a detailed methodology and outlines the
research design, data collection methods, analysis techniques used
to investigate the positive impacts of tree planting in urban settings
As of 2022,China has the most trees planted in 2021 at more than 2.5 billion
trees.Governments,non-profit organizations, and charities worldwide conduct tree-
planting initiatives to reverse the effects of global warming and carbon emissions.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Philippines has
committed to fully supporting the tree planting components of the recently launched.
PagbaBAGo:A Million Learners and Trees”.program of the Office of the Vice
President(OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).This five-year program aims t
provide students with one million bags containing school supplies and dental kits, planting
one million trees for environmental sustainability.

According to Hon.Councilor Julie Mantequilla, the Committee on Environment of

Municipality of Santo Tomas. ”On 2022 52,660 trees planted in Santo Tomas
Davao Del Norte. As Green Warriors that advocates and has passion in
Planting,Growing,Caring and Protecting the trees.”
Statement of the Problem
The study aims to provide insights into the positive impacts of tree
planting in urban settings and offer recommendations for effective
implementation and sustainability of tree planting initiatives.
Specifically, this answers the following questions that the study
seeks to address:

1.What are the environmental benefits of tree planting in urban settings?

2.What are the social benefits of tree planting in urban settings?
3.What are the economic benefits of tree planting in urban settings?
4.What are the barriers and challenges to tree planting initiatives in urban
areas?
5.What are the effective strategies for implementing and sustaining tree
planting initiatives in urban areas?
Null Hypothesis

There is no significant positive

impact of tree planting in urban
settings on
environmental,social,and
economic aspects.
Theoretical Framework
The study proposed by Bronfenbrenner(1979)in his ecological system theory
provide a useful theoretical framework for understanding the role of trees in
creating sustainable, livable, and resilient urban environments.this theory
proposes that individuals are embedded within a series of nested systems.
Including the microsystem,mesosystem,exosystem,and macrosystem,which
interact and influence each other.
Moreover,Dr.Kathleen Wolf(1990) in urban forest ecosystem approach,the
positive tree planting in urban settings views as a interactions between trees and
other elements of the urban ecosystem, urban planners and tree planters can be
design urban forest that are more resilient and sustainable.

Meanwhile, the principle “Right tree, right place” of the Arbor Day Foundation
has a strategy for mitigating the negative effects of urbanization on the
environments.this principle involves selecting the appropriate tree species for
particular location based on factors such as soil type, available space and
surrounding infrastructure.

Significance of the Study
The findings of this would be a great help of the following:

Urban residents: trees absorb pollutants and produce

oxygen, which can help improve air quality in urban areas
It improves their health, well-being and quality of life.
Local businesses: It helps reduce energy costs as trees
provide shade to buildings, which can help reduce the
need for air condition.

Overall community: making urban areas more

sustainable, livable, and resilient. It can help reduce the
overall footprint of our communities and contribute to global
efforts to address climate change.
Research Design

Qualitative research is the best method for exploring

research (Creswell, 2007). According to Creswell,
there are four techniques of qualitative data collection
which researchers can adopt. These are field work,
observation, interviews (including group interviews and
focus groups), and document analysis.
Procedure how to conduct the study

This study use a Research defining the objectives and

questions, developinga conceptual framework to guide the study.

Research design: determine the appropriate research approach such as

mixed methods.

Data Collection: conduct online surveys

Data analysis: organizing the collected data for analysis

Interpretation and finding: Interpreting the result of the data analysis in

relation to the research questions and objectives.
