CHAPTER 02
HOME/ HOMETOWN

IELTS Huy Nguyen

- Where are you from? 3

I come from Vinh Long. It is a province in the

South-West of Vietnam. It religiously takes around
three to four hours to travel there from Ho Chi Minh
Question city.
- Would you want to live in your hometown
forever? (conditional)
Technically, I inhabit a small city, but that doesn't
matter. I love Vinh Long, sure, but the thought of
having to inhabit it invariably is awful. I would
leave it, then I will stay in it when I turn old.

- Where do you live?
4
I inhabit District 10, Ho Chi Minh city. It is splendid-ish and
busy. It’s in the center of the city, so it’s easy to get anywhere
you want. Moreover, they are building innumerable
skyscrapers that changes substantially the face of the city.
Question Thus, I think houses here will become criminally expensive in
the prospect.
- What do you dislike about the neighborhood where you
live?
I don't like the sawdust that drizzles daily in my
neighborhood. I'm sure the people who owns the factory a
block away from me, enjoy opening their windows on a cool
spring day. Unfortunately that privilege is denied to me and
the families.

BAND 7
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I am from Vinh Long, which is a city in the South-West of Vietnam. It religiously takes
around three to four hour to travel there from Saigon,...but to tell you the truth, I don’t go to
back to see my relatives very often. I guess I am kind of a bad family member.
WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN YOUR HOMETOWN FOREVER?
NO, I DON'T GUESS SO. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad place to live. The living costs are quite cheap, so
it's actually a good place to raise a family. However, in my point of view, it's a little too quiet and boring, to me
at least. I am kind of a city person, so if I were to inhabit somewhere for the rest of my life, it would have to be
somewhere such as New York, Paris, or at least Ho Chi Minh city.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I inhabit District 10, Ho Chi Minh municipality, which is a splendid-ish as well as busy neighborhood located
right in the center of the city. The central location means that it's just 10 or 15 minutes from anywhere you
crave for being. There are countless transport options around the area; there's even a sky train system that's
under construction. I guess all of these factors will make property prices in the neighborhood go up, so that's
good.

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE YOU LIVE?

I don't like the fact that the sawdust drizzles daily in my neighborhood. I'm sure the individuals who owns the
factory a block away from me, relish opening their windows on a cool spring day. Unfortunately that privilege 12
is denied to me and the families.

like flowers ” . Một số khái niệm về từ vựng bạn nên nắm chắc để nói “ có hồn ” hơn như:
• Động từ khuyết thiếu ( may / might / could )
• Động từ ( seem / tend / appear / believe / indicate / suggest )
• Trạng từ chỉ mức độ thường xuyên ( often / sometimes / normally
• Trạng từ ( probably / possibly )

BAND 8
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Well technically, I was born and raised in Vinh Long. But when talking about hometowns in Vietnam, people usually refer
to your father's birthplace, so for me I guess that's Vinh Long. It's a small-ish city, not too far from here. My dad goes back
pretty religiously to see my grandpa and his siblings. I, however, just can't manage the time to do so.

WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN YOUR HOMETOWN FOREVER? (CONDITIONAL)

Well, it's a possibility that 'I occasionally entertained, but for now I would say say no.
Sure, it can be a fantastic place to raise a family and it's super affordable to live there. Nevertheless, if I were to settle
somewhere permanently, it'd have to be a megacity, or at least an immense city such as Saigon.
I am a sucker for the allure of metropolises, where things are glamourous and constantly changing. Even though living
costs in cities are becoming criminally expensive, it's still a trade-off I'm willing to make.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I live in District 10, Ho Chi Minh municipality. It's a splendid-ish and busy neighborhood, which is a rarity in Saigon. It's a
very strategic location, whether you crave for inhabiting or proceed to do a business here. It's only a short drive away from
anywhere you want to be in Saigon,..
and there're lots of transport hubs, including a sky train system that's nearly finished. With all of the exciting projects and
developments that are underway, it's only a matter of time until property prices here go through the roof.

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE YOU LIVE?

As ideal of a location as my neighborhood is, there are definitely things that I'm not quite fond of. For one, the options of
shopping and dining are sorely lacking, which is thankfully starting to change. 14
