Ease of Installation

Vertical In-line installations are simpler and

less costly
Vertical Split Case Pump ‘sits’ on a big inertia
block with spring isolator installed at the
bottom. Cumbersome & expensive to install.

Maintainability:
Split case

• 2 seals to maintain and 2 bearings to remove and

replace
• The whole rotating part (shaft, impeller, bearing
mechanical seal) needs to be taken out for servicing
of mechanical seal.
• This means that the pumps need to be re aligned
once the servicing are done.
• Inboard seal can be replaced in an estimated 6
hours in an 8” pump

Dismantling & assembly is complicated. Need well trained technician with experience to align the casing just right so the
casing will not leak from the side

Reliability

Vibration is the number one common root cause influencing the use-able life span of a pump.

• Shaft alignment at the coupling to the motor,

• Rotating elements in the pump & motor bearings
• Electric motor induced vibration

Vertical in Line Pump runs vibration free

Reliability
When repair costs exceed replacement cost, the pump is at end of life

• Vibration over time will change the shape of bearing housings to cause
alignment problems that further lead to increased maintenance
• Surface damage of the shaft alignment housings eventually produces
un-predictable failure cycles and requires bearing housing replacement

The lower bearing always fail

because of the inherent design of
the Vertical Split Case pump. All
debris fall towards the bearing due
to gravity.

Integrated DE Controls vs Wall / Panel Mounted Drives
Wall Mounted Drives Integrated Controls
Usually, generic drives are used for wall mounting Pump Specific controls & Functions are provided on the Design
Envelope Controls
Additional power wiring from VFD to motor is required. No Additional power wiring is required as the controls are integrated
with the pumping unit.

Additional AC line reactors are required on the power line Built-In DC line reactors removes requirement of AC line reactors.

Wall Mount Wall-mounted drives often do not include RFI filters and must In built RFI filters in compliance to low emission and immunity
VFD
be provided as an extra requirements EN6800-3 to the 1st Environment Class C1 which
limits THD to 35-40%.
When distance between VFD & Motor is lengthy, long No risk due to long standing wave since controls are mounted on the
standing wave can form which increases voltage at motor motor.
terminals causing motor pre-mature failure.

It is often not possible to mount wall drives in the optimum Minimized risk of reflected wave voltage since controls are mounted

increased due to longer distances.
Do not have Energy metering capabilities Design Envelope pumps incorporate the ability to record and
cumulate pumping unit energy consumption.

Requires wall space Using Design Envelope pumps with integrated controls means
valuable wall real estate is not used. Equipment can be positioned
closer to the mechanical room perimeter because the walls are kept
clear.

Active Performance Management

Active Performance Management is a systems management

approach that optimizes HVAC systems at any stage of a building’s
life-cycle by continually learning from a broad network of
installations and responding to changing HVAC requirements.

The combination of smart commissioning with real-time alerts and

system transparency addresses performance drift and maintains
occupant comfort

 Real-time alarms & notifications.

 Advises changes to system performance
 Predicts failures and potential issues thereby
 Reducing downtime
 Provides Intelligence based maintenance plan.
