INTRODUCTION
• A digital twin is a virtual representation of an object or system that spans its
lifecycle, is updated from real-time data, and uses simulation, machine learning and
reasoning to help decision-making.
• A digital twin is a virtual model designed to accurately reflect a physical object.
• A digital twin also can be used for monitoring, diagnostics and prognostics to
optimize asset performance and utilization.
• digital twins in finding the root cause of issues and improve productivity.
• The digital twin is disrupting the entire product lifecycle management (PLM), from
design, to manufacturing to service and operations
• Digital twins offer a great amount of business potential by predicting the future
instead of analysing the past of the manufacturing process.
• Sensory data can be combined with historical data.
How Does Digital Twin Technology Work?
Sensor
A wind turbine is outfitted with various sensors related to vital areas of functionality

Convert Data
sensors produce data about different aspects of the physical object’s
performance, such as energy output, temperature, weather conditions and more

Processing
This data is then relayed to a processing system and applied to the
Wind Mill digital copy.

Simulating
The virtual model can be used to run simulations, study performance issues and
generate possible improvements

Implementation
generating valuable insights applied back to the original physical object

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this research has highlighted the significant potential of virtual product
modelling and digital twins in enhancing the functionality and performance of smart
products. By creating a digital replica of physical products and integrating real-time data,
analytics, and control capabilities, digital twins offer a powerful tool for optimizing product
design, operation, and maintenance. The ability to simulate, analyse, and predict the
behaviour of smart products enables proactive decision-making and efficient resource
management. However, challenges such as data integration, security, and interoperability
need to be addressed to fully realize the benefits of digital twins. Future research should
focus on developing standardized frameworks and methodologies for digital twin
implementation across industries to unlock their full potential in the era of smart
manufacturing and the Internet of Things.
