ABSTRACT
Coconut is one of the most important ingredients in Indian household. It is widely used for cooking
and also for extracting coconut oil. Though coconut is used widely in all parts of India, dehusking
coconut is not an easy task for everyone. Scrapping is not an easy process too. It requires time. This
project presents a method to dehusk and scrap the coconut to make it ready to be used using only one
motor. This machine removes the coconut husk first and then cut it. The coconut is then scrapped
which makes the process easy and fast.
INTRODUCTION
• In many rural regions, a large number of individuals are involved in the process of dehusking
coconuts. This is a crucial step before the oil can be extracted from the coconut.
• Traditionally, this process has been performed manually using sharp tools, which not only
consumes a significant amount of time but also poses a risk of serious injury due to the potential
for accidents.
• To address these issues, a motorized dehusking and cutting machine has been introduced.
• This design allows the machine to perform the dehusking process much faster and more safely
than manual methods.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Review on Coconut Dehusking and Cutting Machine

• The journal provides a comprehensive overview of the coconut dehusking process, a critical step
before oil extraction from the coconut.
• The traditional method, which involves the use of sharp tools, is both time-consuming and risky.
To mitigate these issues, the paper introduces a motorized dehusking and cutting machine.
• This machine, equipped with rollers mounted by spikes and connected to gears for power
transmission, offers a safer and more efficient alternative.
• The rollers, placed parallel to each other, are mounted with spikes that effectively remove the
husk, the outermost part of the coconut.
• The machine operates through a well-coordinated bearing and gear arrangement, enabling the
rollers to rotate in opposite directions, thereby facilitating the dehusking process.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Review on Coconut Dehusking and Cutting Machine Contd.

• The machine is powered by a 1.5-2 HP motor with a speed of 1440rpm, making it optimally
designed for this operation. The paper emphasizes that the dehusking and cutting operations are
carried out separately in individual units, contributing to the machine’s efficiency.
• This review underscores the potential of such technological advancements in transforming
traditional practices, enhancing safety, and increasing productivity.
OBJECTIVE
• The main objective of the project is to review the existing literature on coconut dehusking and
cutting machines, and to identify the disadvantages of existing techniques.
• The problems can be solved using a coconut dehusking, cutting, and scraping machine.
• This machine, equipped with rollers mounted by spikes and connected to gears for power
transmission, offers a safer and more efficient alternative.
• The rollers, placed parallel to each other, are mounted with spikes that effectively remove the
husk, the outermost part of the coconut, and cutting it and scraping the coconut flesh.
COMPONENTS REQUIRED
• Frame
• Bearings and Bearing Housing
• Gears
• Hollow shafts
• Blades
• Chain and sprockets
• Electric motor
• Over arm and spring arrangement
BENEFITS
• This project aims to provide a safer and more efficient way of dehusking coconuts, which is an
important step before extracting oil from the coconut.
• This machine can cut and scrap the coconut which is very helpful in household uses as coconut is
one of the major cooking ingredients.
• The machine reduces the risk of injury and the time consumption compared to the traditional
method of using sharp tools.
• The machine also increases the productivity and the economic development of rural areas by
reducing labor costs and enhancing the quality of coconut products.
