SKILL 3: POLA SUSUNAN & FUNGSI
KELOMPOK KATA
• Kelas Kata (Parts of Speech)
- Noun (K. Benda) = name of things
- Countable  chair, table, book, computer, etc.
- Uncountable  water, sand, rice, bread, chocolate, etc.
- Verb (K. Kerja) = expresses action or being
- Linking Verb  is, am, are, was, been, being
 seem, look, smell, taste, feel, sound
- Action Verb  dance, eat, think, study, etc.
- Helping Verb  modals (can, must, ...), to be, has/have/had, do/does/did
- Adjective (K. Sifat) = describes a noun/pronoun
Contoh: smart, diligent, old, blue, etc.
- Adverb (K. Keterangan) = describes a verb/adjective/adverb
Contoh: diligently working, very old, very thoroughly.
- Preposition (K. Depan) = placed before a noun/pronoun (to my friend, with you)
• Susunan dan Fungsi
1. Noun + Linking Verb + Adjective
- Fungsi: describe more information of the noun
- Linking Verb  five-sensed verb (seem, look, smell, taste, feel, sound)
- Contoh kalimat:
a. The house looked so old.
b. The pizza smells delicious.
c. They feel worried about the test.
2. Noun + Verb + Adverb
- Fungsi: describe or modify the verb
- Adverb  biasanya berakhiran –ly dari adjective
- Contoh kalimat:
a. Those people ran aggressively.
b. The kids play cheerfully.
c. The event has finished completely.

3. Adverb + Adjective
- Fungsi: describe the intensity of the adjective
- Jenis Adverb  berakhiran –ly
- Contoh kalimat:
a. The rules are totally ridiculous.
b. Those buildings are extremely high.
c. The baby was completely sleepy.
4. Adverb + Adjective + Noun
- Fungsi: describe more of the noun by using adverb + adjective
- Contoh kalimat:
a. He is a highly motivated employee.
b. I saw many quickly made handicrafts in Bali.
c. It was a sadly true story that the book told.

5. To (preposition) + verb-ing
- Berdasarkan pola, ada beberapa verb yg diikuti oleh to + verb-ing
 Confess or admit to doing something
 Oppose or object to doing something
 be dedicated/devoted/committed to doing something
 be used to/accustomed to/adjust to doing something
 Look forward to/get around to doing something
- Contoh kalimat:
a. She won’t admit to cheating on the test.
b. I’m not accustomed to waking up so early.
c. I’m looking forward to seeing you.
6. Having + V3 + Noun + Verb
- Fungsi: describe a past first action that is followed by the second action.
a. Having eaten so much food, I started to feel bloated.
