INFORMATICS
INTRODUCTION
1. HISs prioritize above all else. In order to assist health care
professional in giving patients safe and effective medical care. HISs
must operate accurately, steadily and smoothly. Additionally,
patient data must be stored properly and securely, “safety” is
broken down a into a variety of categories in the HISs context, some
of which are regulated by law. One of these categories is “patient
safety” which related to the idea that HISs will help patient medical
mishapes like patient mistake (such as doing surgery in wrong
place) and issue with drug delivery. In reality, hospitals with
actively customize HISs have built features that promote patient
safety by collaborating with contracted suppliers and utilizing
incident report analysis from the institution themselves.
Definition
• Patient safety is the absence of
preventable harm to a patient
during the process of health care.
• The discipline of patient safety is
the coordinated efforts to prevent
harm to patient, caused by the
process of health care itself .
• It is generally agreed upon that
the meaning patient of safety
is….. “ please do no harm”.
PATIENT SAFETY GOAL
• Improve the accuracy of patient identification.
• Improve the effectiveness of communication among
caregiver.
• Improve the safety of using medication.
• Reduce the risk of health care associated infections.
• Accurately and completely reconcile medication across
the continuum of care.
• Reduce the risk of patient harm resulting form false.
• Special emphasis on, dangerous abraviations, infections
control, “look a like and sound a like” medication time
outs.
PRINCIPLE OF PATIENT SAFETY

• Proper identification of patient and matching to their care


elements.
• Prevention of patient hand over error and safety during
transfer.
• Assessing medical accuracy while giving care to a patient.
• Performance of correct procedure at correct bodysite.
• Take appropriate precaitionary measures to avoid infection.
