Lock Codes
What are lock or key codes?

Key codes come in two types:

Blind codes - code will need to be translated into the cuts via code
software.

Direct digit codes - the code contains the actual cuts of the key.

Key codes can be found is various locations depending on the type of lock.

- For residential and commercial


door locks the code is usually on
the factory key

- For pad locks the key code can be found on the back (combination type)
or on the key

- For automobiles (First place to check it the Owners Manual)


- GM and Ford the best place ins the ignition lock
- Toyota and Nissan if there is a passenger door lock it will be on
there if there is not a passenger door lock then it should be on the drivers
door lock.
- Honda if there is a glove compartment it should be there.

- Consider selling a service to decode customers keys.

- When rekeying locks consider proving the customer with the keycodes
for their records

- For all keys lost on cars consider providing the key cuts to customer as
value added service. Remember it is only value added if you tell them you
are doing it free of charge.
