the Problem
Statement of the Problem
- This is they key of the research. It
represents the major problem, which
is further discussed into sub
problems that are researchable units
addressed one at a time.
Steps in Writing the Statement of
the Problem:
1. Write the general problem.
2. Write the specific questions to be
answered. Considered the following
in writing the research question.
A. Start with the general objective
and end with end-view of your
research.
B. Arrange the questions
chronologically.
C. A research question is a question
that CAN be answered in an objective
way, at least partially and at least for
now.
D. Make sure that the research
question can be answered using
information that already exists or that
can be collected.

not already been answered, has
not been answered completely, or
has not been answered for your
specific context.
Factors that Affects the Reading Comprehension of High
School Students

1.4 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This research is aims to know the factors that affect the
reading comprehension of a high school students.
(Write the general problem)
This research specifically answers the following questions
below:
1. Identify the factors that affect the reading
comprehension of high school students.
Background of the
Study
In the introduction, the scenario is set.
It shows how the present study has
evolved by highlighting the gap in the
existing knowledge and how the
general study will attempt to bridge the
gap. The following are the steps in
writing the introduction:
1. First paragraph: Talk about the topic
in a general and specific sense. Make
sure to include citations.
2. Second paragraph: Summarize the
two paragraph’s content in the context
of your locale of the study.
3. Third paragraph: Discuss the problem
in your place of immersion and support
with citations.
4. Fourth paragraph: Discuss the theory
that will help you solve the current
problem.
5. Fifth paragraph: Discuss the end-view
or general objective of your research.
Significance of
the Study
The significance of the study
includes possible contributions of the
research to the field of knowledge. In
writing the significance of the study,
list all beneficiaries of the research.
Then, discuss in two or three
sentences the benefit they will get
from the thesis.
List all the beneficiaries of the research:
1. Students.
2. Teachers.
3. Administrators.
4. Future Researchers.
Then, discuss in two or three sentences the benefit
they will get from the research.

Students. The study could provide students more

opportunities to love writing and delete the notion
that writing us dull as a field. This could also help
them become more responsible for their own
learning by transforming them from being passive
recipients of information to being self-motivated,
active meaning-makers, and expert learners.
Scope and
Delimitations
The scope presents the
inclusions of the study, while
delimitations present what are
not covered in the study or
cannot be controlled for
acceptable reasons.
In writing the scope and
delimitations, discuss the scope and
the limits or things not included in
the research. Include also a
discussion on the scope and limit of
the research instrument or the
product of the research.

reading comprehension.
-The study will aim to identify effective strategies to
support high school students’ reading comprehension

Delimitations:
-The study will only focus on high school students and
will not include other age groups.
-The study will only examine the factors that affect
reading comprehension and will not explore other
aspects of literacy.
-The study will be limited to the factors and theoretical
frameworks identified in the literature review.
-The study will not investigate the impact of specific
interventions or programs on reading comprehension.
