Wave Power

What is Wave Power?
What is Wave Power?
Wave power can be defined as power obtained by harnessing
the energy produced by waves at sea. It's electrical energy
generated by harnessing the up-and-down motion of ocean
waves. It is typically produced by floating turbine
platforms. However, it can also be generated by exploiting the
changes in air pressure occurring in wave capture chambers that

Sun warms our atmosphere. Warm air tends to rise, and
winds are due to other air moving in to replace it.
Wave power is typically produced by floating turbine platforms
or buoys that rise and fall with the swells. However, wave
power can be generated by exploiting the changes in air
pressure occurring in wave capture chambers that face the sea
or changes in wave pressure on the ocean floor.
How does wave power work
Wave power is produced by the up-and-down motion of
floating devices placed on the surface of the ocean.

There is an enormous energy potential that can be taken out of

the waves and tides. Still, scientists, companies, and national
authorities have not yet understood how to make it a viable
product.

Australia
Australia has 34,218 kilometres (21,262 m) of coastline, one of the world’s
largest wave energy resource, around 1,800 terawatt hours, and is an area
identified with some of the world’s best marine power potential across its
southern coastline. For example, the government approved a national Offshore
Electricity Infrastructure Bill in 2021. This provides a policy framework for
building and operating offshore electricity projects.
Summary
The deployment and use of wave
energy devices and schemes can also
have an impact on the environment in
terms of the local shipping and fishing
industries as well as on the local
environment. Some of
the environmental impacts of wave
energy may be beneficial while some
others could be potentially harmful. So
it isn't bad for the environment, nor is
it ONLY good for it, it all depends on
how it's used.
