What is appeasement?
Think of a time when you may have given a sibling or a friend something, even
if you didn’t really want to, just to avoid a bigger fight or conflict from
occurring.

This is the choice that world leaders faced in 1938 when faced with Hitler’s
increasing expansion.
Policy of Appeasement

In a diplomatic context, a policy of appeasement is one of


conceding political, economic, or territorial gains to an
aggressive world power to avoid conflict.

Between 1935 and 1939, Britain made a series of


decisions to allow Hitler to make territorial gains in the
hopes of avoiding another world war.

meeting where Hitler demanded the annexation of
Sudetenland (Czech Republic)
