1. INTRODUCTION
ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The department of Computer Science was established in the year


2012, comprises dedicated well qualified faculties and sophisticated
computer laboratory. The graduate programme in computer sciences
is essentially aimed at developing a student with excellent
programming and system related competencies. The Department is
committed to provide global standards of digital education and
exposure to the student community.

OBJECTIVES

To teach students effective teamwork, communication and


interpersonal skills that enable them to work with others effectively
in their professional careers.

To prepare students to function ethically and responsibly, and to be


conscious of ethical, social, global, legal, security and professional
issues related to computing.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

To produce highly qualified and motivated graduates through a

3. THE DEPARTMENT FORUM ACTIVITY- TECS


The forum of the department namely TECS (Technology in
Computer Science) creates opportunities for the students to
showcase their technical expertise and to expose them to the
modern advancements and trends in the digital world.

The DEC (Digital Empowerment Club) operates to bridge the gap


of digital divide among the inter-disciplinary students of the
college by organizing need based computer literacy programs.

Date:03-09-2023 , Venue: Athens Hall

The programme was conducted for II & III BSc CS students. Technical Quiz,
audio reversal and various games were the events. The program starts at 10.00 AM
with the keynote address by Mr. Renjith K V, Head Department of Computer
Science. The programme begin with open technical quiz. Students actively
participated in the event. Next event was audio reversal were students should
identify the reversed word played in the audio. Students were rewarded for their
participation and prizes were given. The programme end with the vote of thanks
given by Ms. Archana M S (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science).

TIKTACK
Date:17-09-2022 , Venue: Athens Hall

The programme was conducted for I year BSc CS and BSc Multimedia students.
The program starts at 1:30 PM in Athens Hall with the keynote address by Mr.
Renjith K V, Head Department of Computer Science. Followed by an introduction
speech to the TECS forum regarding what the forum all about and what are the
activities happening in the forum etc. It was delivered by Ms. Jima T J
(Assistant Professor, Dept of Computer Science) with a video presentation. The
seniors has given a fresher’s party to the first years in the forum. They welcomed
the new students in a friendly manner. Fresher’s along with their seniors got
chance to showcase their talent. Later small games were organized to make the
function more tricky and fun.The event was finally concluded with the vote of
thanks by Siyam (III BSC CS).

Date:15-11-2022, Venue: Nalanda Hall

The programme begin with the prayer, followed by the welcome address by Ms.
Archana M S (Asst. Professor, Dept. of Computer Science). Mr. Renjith K V
(Head, Dept. of Computer Science) delivers the keynote address. Achievers of the
semester were honored in the event by issuing cards. Card system were introduced
in the college for encouraging and recognizing students for their achievements and
commitments. Green, Blue, Yellow and Red are the cards available.. After the
honoring some entertainment programs like song and games were done. Program
was a great success and concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Pavithra (Asst.
Professor, Dept. of Computer Science).

Date: 14-12-2022, Venue: Athens Hall

The programme begin with the prayer, followed by the welcome address by Ms.
Anjana (I BSc CS). Ms. Jima T J (Asst. Professor, Dept. of Computer Science)
delivers the keynote address. Spot games and various cultures were conducted. The
winners in the games are rewarded with small gifts. The overall programme was
coordinated by first year students along with the guidance of TECS staff
coordinators. Students thoroughly enjoyed the programme and reflected their
happiness joy throughout the event. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by
Ms. Pavithra (Asst. Professor, Dept. of Computer Science).

Activity
VINCENZA
Date: 21-12-2022, Venue: 2ND BCOM Finance class room

The welcome address was given by Abinaya C (I BSc CS). The Keynote address
given by Ms. Jima TJ (TECS Coordinator and Assistant Professor-Department of
Computer Science). The main event quiz was organised by Adnan KS and
Hisham(I BSc CS). Students were split into teams, each team consists of 3
members. Eeman, Jishnu KP, Mohammed Ameer (I BSc CS) got first prize for
the quiz. After quiz competition Cultural and many spot games were conducted.
The participants were rewarded with small gifts. The overall programme was
coordinated by student TECS coordinators under the guidance of TECS staff
coordinators. Students enjoyed and actively participated in all the events. The
program ended with the Vote of thanks given by Anjana M(I BSc CS).

LETS CHAT ON CHAT GPT
Date: 07-02-2023, Venue: Nalanda Hall

The Department of Computer Science TECS forum organizes a forum


programme on 7th February 2023, 02:00 PM at Nalanda Hall. Session on
ChatGPT, spot games and cultures were the programmes. It was organized for all
first year MSc CS students. The program starts at 2:00 pm. The welcome address
was given by Abi (I MSc CS). The Keynote address given by Mr. Renjith K V
(Head-Department of Computer Science). Totally 7 students have received the
certificates. Mr. Muhammed Savad and Hasna of I MSc CS has given an
introduction to ChatGPT, which is new booming revolutionary technology. They
have given the idea of what is ChatGPT its working and application. Various
cultures and spot games were there. The program ended with the Vote of thanks
given by Ms. Jima T J (Asst. Professor, Department of Computer Science).

Date: 22-02-2023, Venue: Nalanda Hall

The event starts with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Ms. Amrutha G (II
BSc CS). There was a Tech Talk on Introduction to UiPath Enterprise RPA platform
given by Mr. Rahul Sai P S (II BSc CS), which is a highly informative session for
the students. Kahoot quiz was conducted, were 10 teams of 3 students each
participated.. After the honoring there was cultural like song and dance performed
by students. Various spot games also were conducted, were students actively
involved and enjoyed each games. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Ms.
Jima T J (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science)

10. ACTIVITY DETAILS

A. AZAADI KA AMRIT MAHOLTSAVA


Date:23-08-2022 , Venue: CS Lab and Happiness Garden

Department of Computer Science organized the freedom campaign named


AZAADI KA AMRIT MAHOLTSAVA on 23th August 2022. The students of BCA
2nd and 3rd year students took the initiative to conduct the event and they
coordinated the whole program . The programs are Kahoot and Treasure Hunt. The
Kahoot is the digital quiz which started at 11.45 AM in CS computer lab. The
students from various department participated in the game. Only two players are
allowed to participate in one group and we got 40 teams. And second event is
Treasure Hunt is started at 2.00 PM in Happiness Garden.

B. Workshop on Robotics Process Automation

The Department of Computer Science organized an orientation workshop on


“Robotic process Automation” for students of I BSC MM and and for I BSC CS on
26th September,2022.
The session started with a prayer song. Mr. Renjith KV , Head of department of
Computer Science welcomed the gathering. The Inaugural address was given by
Mr.Mohan Babu, Academic Dean. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr.
Senthilkumar, Principal.
The session was handled by Mr. Jobin, Technology lead in Intelligent Automation.
He gave a fully details on Robotics process automation to the students. The program
was concluded by giving vote of thanks by Adnan KS of 1 st BSC CS.

C. Workshop on Hardware and Assembling

The Department of Computer Science organized a


workshop on the topic Hardware and its assembling, The objective of
this programme to enlighten and enrich the students knowledge and
awareness about hardware and its assembling. The programme was
focused on first year computer science students.
Renjith KV, HoD of Department of Computer Science
gave the presidential address. The program was hosted by
Mr.Monsi ,Admin of Nilgiri College of Arts and Science. He gave a deep
knowledge about various hard wares in a computer.
The program was scheduled for two hours on 27-09-2022
from 1.50pm to 3.50pm. More than 60 students participated from the
department.

D. Intercollegiate fest – SODASHI 2k22

Don Bosco college Sulthan bathery hosted a National level


Intercollegiate fest named SODASHI 2k22 on 13 th & 14th October
2022.It was a 2 day program .There were 4 events hosted by the
computer science department of Don Bosco College.
49 students of our department attended in the fest. Our students
grabbed many prizes in various events and many of them were able to
reach finals.
Overall it was a very good experience and a good exposure for the
students participated. They have given a positive feedback and they
are more excited for future events The overall championship for the
national level Intercollegiate ‘SODASHI 2k22’ was bagged by Nilgiri
College of Arts and Science.

F. Workshop on Ethical Hacking

The Department of Computer Science organized one day workshop on


Ethical Hacking. The main objective of this workshop is to promote
understanding and awareness among the students about the concept of
ethical hacking. The workshop was scheduled on 26 th october
2022,11;40am at Nalanda hall. The session was given for I BSc CS and I
BSc Multimedia Students.
The workshop was led by I BSc Cs student Mr.Adnan KS, who is a
certified ethical hacker and penetration tester. Ms.Jima TJ(Assistant
Professor Department of .CS) gave the welcome speech and Mr.Renjith
K V (HOD ,Department of Computer Science) delivered the keynote
address. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Ms. Archana M
S (Assistant Professor Department CS)

The main objective of this webinar is to enlighten the participants to


discover more on the area of Ethical HAcking.

G. Expert Session on ‘Digital Fundamentals and Architecture’

The Department of Computer Science Conducted an Expert


session on topic ‘Digital Fundamentals and Architecture’ on 20 th december
2022 at Nalanda hall. I BSC CS and I BSC Multimedia and Web Technology.
The main objective of this session was to make the students to enhance their
idea about digital fundamentals and Architecture. The program was mainly
conducted for students of I BSC CS and I BSC Multimedia and Web
Technology .
The session was led by resource Person Dr. Santhosh Kumar of
Providence College, Coonoor. and the program was organized by Mr. Renjith
K. V(HOD of Computer Science) and coordinated by Mrs.Archana MS (Asst.
Prof).

H. IV and Tour

Department of Computer Science conducted an Industrial


visit and tour for the final year students of Bsc Computer
science on 22nd January 2023.
A team of 30 students had visited Uduppi ad Mangalore in
a 3 day trip.

I. Seminar on Data Science.

The Department of Computer Science organized seminar on data science


on 10th February ,2023 at Nalanda Hall. The main objective of this
seminar is to make the students to give a knowledge about Data science
and its importance in current scenario. The PG students from department
of Computer Science, Commerce were participated in the session.

The seminar was led by resource person Dr.Mohammed sirajudheen ,PG


dean of Nilgiri College of Arts and Science. Program was organized by
Mr. Renjith K V (Head, Department of CS) and coordinated by Mrs.Jima
TJ(Asst. Prof).

The main objective of this seminar is to enlighten the participants to


discover more on the area of Data Science. The resource person shared the
importance of Data Science in industry era. The session was very useful and

J. Session on “NPTEL – SWAYAM COURSE”

The Department of Computer Science organized a session on topic


“NPTEL – SWAYAM COURSE” 20th Jan 2022. The session started with
a prayer song. Mr. Renjith (HOD, Department of Computer Science)
welcomed the gathering. The. Session was led by delivered by Dr.
Mohammed Sirajudeen (PG Dean,Nilgiri College of arts and science).
The main objective of this session was to give the final year students a
information about NPTEL Swayam courses . The expected audience of
session was final year students of department of computer science.
There was a feedback session, the students reflected their reviews about
the Workshop. The session came to an end with the vote of thanks by
Mrs. Archana MS (Assistant Professor).

•28 III BSC CS students completed Infosys Skill training


program.

•Final year students are doing Google Certification Course.

•Rahul Sai , Sheik Ansil, Kamal Nath of II BSC CS qualified


and certified in Ui – Path.

•II BSC CS students won first prize in ICDS department and


natural club conducted competition on behalf of Nutritional
week.

•Rishikesh, Ajay and Sijith of II BSC CS attended NCC CATC


camp at Ooty.

•Nima and Jeeshma of II BSC CS selected Inter Collegiate


football team

•Arjun S of I BSC CS participating in National Kick Boxing


Championship at Chennai.

•Adnan K S of I BSC CS awarded the certificate for Ethical


hacking.

•Adnan K S of I BSC CS participated in National Karate


Championship and secured 3 rd place.

•Mufeeda of I BSC CS awarded as child scientist on behalf of


scientific thinking presentation conducted by National
Children's Science Congress.

•Arjun of I BSC CS grabbed Bronze medal in Bharathiar


University Inter Collegiate Taekwondo Tournament.

•Hisham Muhammed of I BSC CS won 2 nd prize in online quiz


competition on National Consumer Day organized by department
of Commerce.

•PG students attended a national level seminar organized by


providence college for womens, Connoor on 25th January.

•Students won prizes in the fest conducted by WMO College,

Muhammed Hishaam, I BSC CS – 2 nd prize in IT Quiz.
Fazal Rahman, Muhammed Ashmil, Anees T R, Muhammed Razik
of III BSC CS – Ist prize in Treasure Hunt.

•Students won prizes in the fest conducted by St Joseph College,


Devagiri. Siyam R, III BSC CS – Ist Prize in UX Factor.

•Conduct a forum program and PG students presented a topic


“Chat on Chat GPT” on 7-2-2023.

•Conduct a forum program on 22-2-2023 and had a presentation


on Ui Path and Kahoot Quiz.

•Conducted a theme centered Interaction by Sayed Muhammed


Misbah (III BSC Psychology) on 27-2-2023 for first UG students.

•Five students of III BSC CS had taken a session at Gov
primary School, Kayunni on 1-3-2023 as part of extension
activity.

•4 students from III BSC CS got selection to attend Placement


drive of ICT Academy conducted at Providence College Calicut
on 2-3-2023.

•Arjun S of I BSC CS got Green card for achievement in


Taekwondo tournament.

•Muhammad Savad N of I MSC CS has presented a research


paper in an International Conference on Advanced
Computing(ICAC-2023) which was conducted by Department
of Copmputer Science ,Bharathiar University .

•Muhammad Savad N of I MSC CS has passed an online course


provided by IIT Madrass in NPTEL .

11. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE PROSPECTUS

The Department of Computer Science at Nilgiri College of Arts and


Science is an active department engaged with holistic developments
of the students. Apart from the curricular activities, department has
initiated many extra-curricular activities that are relevant to the
industry and student’s career. The department is planning to enlarge
its activities by conducting various programmes and workshops
within and outside the campus in the next academic year.

We extends our gratitude to the Management, Principal, Faculty


Members, Students and Parents for their active participation in the
activities and making the academic year 2020-21 a success.
