Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism
is an ethical theory that holds that the best action is the one that
maximizes overall happiness or well-being, while minimizing
overall suffering or pain. In other words, it is a consequentialist
theory that judges the morality of an action based on its
outcomes or consequences.
2 types of Utilitarianism
Act utilitarianism - is an utilitarian theory of ethics which state

1. that person's act is morally life if and only if it produces at least


as much happiness as any other act that the person's could
perform at the time.

Rule utilitarianism - is a form of utilitarianism that says an action


is right as it conforms to a rules that leads to the greatest good, or
2. that " the rightness or wrongness of a particular action is a function
of the correctness of the rule of which it is an instance Act
