ABSTRACT :
Gas Turbine engines essentially comprises of turbomachines with compressor and
Turbines. These engines are severely operated in the military applications due to extensive
operation. From the literature, During service adverse of engine, the components in the gas
passage affect by the dust particles it creates nicks, dent, corrosion pitting and scratches in
the components i.e compressor. Further, these scratches initiate due to improper machining
with high roughness values. These observations reduce the fatigue life of the components.
In this project, Identifying the various damages sites with sizes in the actual components for
the numerical simulations and Development of two dimensional finite element model with
different sizes and calculate the stress concentration factor at the tip of the damages. Two
dimensional finite element model with damages shall be mapped with 3D actual compressor
blade model. Carry out stress analysis of 3D compressor blade model with different damage
sizes. Fatigue life estimation from the analysis results of all the cases and Comparison of
fatigue lives with and without damage. Validation of damages model with experiments.

Introduction
In modern civil jet engines, blisks are becoming more common in the compressor to reduce weight.
In a few years, these engines are going to require a first complete overhaul.
Consequently, this topic will be of high interest in the next few years.
The regeneration of blisks offers new challenges to engineers as there exist less repair methods, the handling of the components is difficult, and
aspects of structural mechanics as well as aerody_x0002_namics have to be considered.
The repair of these parts is more important than that of single compressor blades, which are mounted on a disk.
If one compressor airfoil of a blisk is damaged, nowadays in many cases the blisk cannot be repaired or the repair cost are too high so the blisk must
be replaced by a new one. For the regeneration of compressor blisks, new repair methods, measuring systems, and evaluation methods are
being developed within the CRC. The aim is to repair more of the damage typically occurring in compressor blisks. The compressor blisks and
blades, work in a high-temperature environment and are subject to high cycle fatigue (HCF, 105-107) and very high cycle fatigue (VHCF, >107)
loadings.
Therefore, fully understanding the high-temperature fatigue behavior and failure mechanism of titanium alloys in HCF and VHCF regimes are of
great importance for flight safety and reliability.
