BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The need for water level controller in overhead and underground tanks in
domestic and industrial applications can no longer be denied.
This need as spurred a lot of developments for water level controllers.
These development has taken different forms and the this project is about one of
it.
Most water level controller available don’t have wireless feedback system. LEDs
are the most common type of feedback used.
This project work will differ from others by using a GSM module for SMS feedback
notification for both overhead and underground tanks water level controller.
The project work developed is also not segregated into either domestic or
industrial application.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Most water level controllers are design without proper feedback
systems. The feedback systems are analog type and those that are
digital is just the use of LED. This feedback systems can’t give real time
situation report on the water level situation. There are times which the
current water level might want to be maintained due to one situation
or another and without the supervisor being on site. This project
sought to develop an underground and an overhead water level
controller with a GSM module for SMS feedback notification. This
makes it that there is update on every situation that may happen.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
Aim
The aim of this project is to design and construct an effective automatic water level
controller for overhead and underground tanks with a feedback notification system via
SMS to keep the operator/user updated on the current status of the tank water level.

Objectives
The objectives of these project are:
To develop an overhead tank water level controller with GSM module for SMS
notification.
To develop an underground tank water level controller with GSM module for SMS
notification.
To develop an overhead and underground tank water level controller with proper
feedback and control system.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The automatic water level controller will be designed for overhead
and underwater tanks and will employ a sensor and various output
devices for proper operation.
The controller monitors the water or other liquid content level using
an ultrasonic sensor placed in each tank.
When a designated water level is reached the sensor sends a voltage
signal to the pump to start pumping and to stop pumping when the
preferred water level is reached or is full.
The system also sends status reports via SMS to the supervisor or
owner on the current situation using a GSM module.

METHODOLOGY
The methodology for the realization of this work is to implement a microcontroller, sensor,
and actuator system to monitor and control the water supply to the tank.

The microcontroller is connected to the relay module, the ultrasonic sensor and the GSM
module.

The data that is sent to the micro-controller from the ultrasonic sensor is processed and acted
on.

The micro-controller act on this data by activating the relay module to ON/OFF the pump
based on the status of the data sent.

The micro-controller also interact with the GSM module to send feedback via SMS.

EXPECTED RESULT
These are these expected result for this project:
The water level controller developed is expected to work for both
overhead and underground tanks.
The developed work is expected to have an integrated GSM module
for SMS feedback notification.
The developed work is expected to work for both industrial and
domestic applications.
