What is a
planned
settlement?

Planned settlements
are settlements whose overall
planned development includes
road facilities, drainage, open
space, mass management
patterns, and so forth. They
are carefully planned from
their inception and contrasts
with settlements evolved
organically.

Islamabad
The second capital of Pakistan

It is
the capital city of Pakistan and is
one of the most beautiful cities in
the South Asian region. Tree-
lined streets adorn the various
sectors and zones of the city,
making it accessible and
spectacular. A city planned by the
renowned town planner
Constantinos , Islamabad is the
fastest growing city in terms of
population, economy, and urban
development.
The city combines a rich history, and a temperate
climate. The region has historically been a part of
the crossroads of Punjab and Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. The city was built during the 1960s
to replace Karachi as Pakistan’s capital because of
Karachi being too south, and exposed to attacks by
the Arabian sea. It was also a crowded and polluted
city. Islamabad was to be divided into eight zones:
Administrative Zone, Commercial District,
Educational Sector, Industrial Sector, Diplomatic
Enclave, Residential Areas, Rural Areas and Green
Area. It has a population of 1.2 million people and The above picture is of the

Brasilia
The capital of Brasilia

Brasilia is the federal capital of Brazil. The city


is located high in the Brazilian highlands in
the country's Central-West region. It was
founded by President Juscelino Kubitschek
on 21 April 1960, to serve as the new national
capital. Brasília is estimated to be Brazil's
third-most populous city. Brasília was
inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
in 1987 due to its modernist architecture and
uniquely artistic urban planning. It was
named "City of Design" by UNESCO in
October 2017.
Brasilia is a megalopolis with a population of 30
million inhabitants. Brasilia is a planned city
distinguished by its white and modern
architecture All three branches of Brazil's federal
government are centered in the city: executive,
legislative and judiciary. Brasilia also hosts 124
foreign embassies. The city's international
airport connects it to all other major Brazilian
cities and some international destinations, and it
is the third-busiest airport in Brazil. It was one

A settlement for workers
Port Sunlight village is near Liverpool, near
the north of England, UK. It was built in
1888 by a soap manufacturing company to
provide homes for the workers in their
factory. The site was flat, marshy land
between the river Mersey and a railway
line. The village has 800 houses, for
population of about 3500 but families are
much smaller, so only 1500 people live there.
All the houses had gardens and the sizes
were equal. The village was planned
so that the workers had great opportunities
of education, leisure, and healthcare.

Ans. Planned settlements are planned, always clean, safe and have better functions.

Ans. Karachi did not remain Pakistan’s capital because of it being too south, and exposed to
attacks by the Arabian sea. It was also a crowded and polluted city.
