Language Register
is the level of
formality with
which we
communicate.
Different situations
and people call for
different registers.
5 types of language
registers
1. Frozen register- is
printed language that
does not change and
found in published
works, historical and
religious documents.
Ex. frozen register:
For God so loved the
world that he gave
his one and only Son,
that whoever believes
in him shall not
perish but have
eternal life.
2. Formal register-
uses complete
sentences standard
for work, business
and academe. It
uses technical
vocabulary.
Ex. Formal register:
“This paper seeks to
explore the
perceptions and
instructional
practices of Filipino
teachers on learner-
centered
pedagogy…”
3.Consultative
register-is a two-
way participation of
speech standard
for work, business,
and academe.
Ex. Consultative
register:

A: Good morning Sir!


B. Good morning! I’m
really excited to be
working with you…
4. Intimate register-
is communication
between loved ones.
Intonation is more
important than
wording or grammar.
Ex. Intimate register:

A. I love you very much.


You are the only man I
ever want in my life.
B. I love you too hon,
thank you for loving me.
5. Casual register is
language used in
conversation with
friends. It is a two-
way communication
characterized by
slang, ellipsis, and
non-verbal modes.
Ex. Casual register:

Hi Kimmi I find your


recent vlog useful
and amusing. I
hope to see more of
them next time.
