Order & Degree Of A Differential Equation

Presented by : Lorenzo C. Consuelo

What Is An Order & Degree Of A Differential Equation?

• Order of a Differential Equation: The order tells us how complicated a differential equation is.

It's like counting the steps needed to solve it. If a differential equation involves only the

original function (y) and its first derivative (dy/dx), it's a first-order differential equation. If it

involves the second derivative (/ ), it's a second-order differential equation, and so on.

• Degree of a Differential Equation: The degree tells us how big the highest derivative is. It's

like looking at the biggest "power" of the derivative. For example, if the highest derivative in

the equation is to the power of 1 (like dy/dx), then it's a first-degree differential equation. If

the highest derivative is squared (like (y/, then it's a second-degree differential equation.
Example :

+ sin (y’’’) = 0

Order:
Degree: Undefined
