ROLE-PLAY PROJECT
I. DESCRIPTION
In the Role-play Project, students will work in small groups of
3 to 5, where they will start by brainstorming ideas and
developing a plot that demonstrates their language skills.
The plot can be based on a particular scene or real-life
situation. For example, the group may choose to simulate a
visit to a hospital, a job interview, or a family dinner. Once
the plot has been developed, students will work on creating a
script that will allow them to play out the scene in the target
language.

In this project, students:
Work in groups of 3-5;

Brainstorm ideas and develop a plot;

Write a simple script;

Give performances in front of the audience.

The lecturer will then divide the class into
groups of 3 to 5 and help each group brainstorm
and choose their scene idea with the
Brainstorming Guidelines.

a. Pre-Performance
In this phase, each group uses the
following Pre-Performance Checklist
to check and keep track of all the
things they are required to finish
before Performance Day.
Once all the answers are YES on your
Checklist, you are ready to present!

b. Performance Day
This stage happens within one lesson. Each group takes
turn to come up to the board and perform what they have
prepared. While each group performs, other students must
complete their Q&A-Audience Notes and write down at
least 2 questions to prepare for the Q&A session.

After each performance, the lecturer facilitates the Q&A


session by calling a random student and ask him/her to read
aloud their question(s). This Q&A session should only last 2-
3 minutes.

III. PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS
Format – Performance – Language
1 – Format
The product must be presented in the following format:
 Live performance (for offline classes)
 Pre-recorded performance (for online classes)
 Length of the full performance: maximum 8-10 minutes
 Length of each member’s talk time: at least 1 minute/individual

2 – Format 3 – Language
Include 4 main components: The language used in the product must be:
 Use of Props  Appropriate language (cannot be too

 Plot  Vocabulary: appropriate level, preferably a mixture of
 Role Development vocabulary words learned in the textbook.
 Grammar: appropriate level, preferably a mixture of
grammatical structures learned in the textbook.

 in-person performances can be replaced with pre-
recorded performances that will be shown live on MS
Teams.

 Q&A session can be conducted online via MS Teams

For Online Audience Notes Submission, lecturers can


create an online form and send the link to students at the
beginning of Performance Day. Students are required to
submit this form at the end of the Performance Day.
Lecturers can look at this FORM for reference.

Online tools available for reference:


 Setting design: Canva, Correl, Power Point, Word, Paint
 Audio effect: iMovies, Cap Cut, VEED, Magisto, etc.
