What is Women’s History Month?
● To celebrate the important role of women in American history
● Month of March
● International Women’s day: March 8th
● The first Women’s suffrage march: February 1908
○ To fight against poor working conditions and to obtain the right to vote
○ about 15,000 people (men & women) marched that day
● 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: August 18th, 1920
○ Gave WHITE women the right to vote
● 1965 - Voting Rights Act gave women of color the right to vote
● However, Wyoming was the first state to grant women the right to vote in
1890

Why do we have Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day?
1924 - Native American’s are recognized as citizens (1962 - Utah, all N.A. can vote)

● She made history by becoming the
first female Vice President of the
United States
● She is also a woman of color
