Whats the blob
fish?
• Psychrolutes marcidus, the smooth-head
blobfish, also known simply as blobfish, is a
deep-sea fish of the family Psychrolutidae.
Where do they
live?
• Blobfish are usually found in dark, cold
habitats deep at the bottom of the Atlantic,
Indian, and Pacific oceans, between 2,000
and 4,000 feet deep.
What are their
place in the
food chain?

• These flabby fish have no known predators, but

may be threatened by destructive human
activities ,but like much deep-sea fish, blobfish
feed on invertebrates.
How do blob
fish care for
their young?
• For hatching, generally, a blobfish keeps on
sitting at the top of the egg. If the blobfish's
egg goes away from the nest, then its
mommy itself eats its eggs. Once the eggs are
laid, the parent blobfish will stay with its
eggs floating on the floor of the sea.

Cool facts!
• They are known as the most ugliest fish, but
thats because they don't have much bone or
muscle, allowing the pressure of the deep sea to
provide their with body structural support.
When brought to the surface, the blobfish
decompresses, giving it the iconic gelatinous
look that we all know and love.
