A family
• Is a grouping of people who consider themselves
related by blood, marriage or adoption.
Types of family
• Nuclear
• extended
• blended
• compound
• patriarchal
• matriarchal
• Egalitarian
Nuclear family
• It is made up of a husband, wife and dependent
children living together in a single dwelling. It is the
smallest unit society.
Advantages of nuclear family
• Prvacy:The couple can get their privacy in their own
house. People can live their own way and can do
whatever they want to do.There is no such
boundries set by the elders.

because of limited expenses.There is less number of
people in the nuclear family
• Freedom:Helps people to do and archive whatever
they want in their life

Disadvantages of nuclear family
• No care: If parents are working and children
sufferingfrom any disease, then one need to deal
with it alone
• Problems to children: especially to children who
need special care,such as who are visually impaired
and disabled.

nuclear family due to robbery and murders because
it is easier to grab someone or less number of
people.

Extended Family
• This is when three or more generations committed
together by blood or marriage relationships to form
a social unit and live together
Advantages of extend family

• A lot of practice of culture and traditions

Disadvantages of extend family
• Loss of independence
• Loss of privacy as there are too many people
• Economic burden
Blende Family
• This is a family that is made up of a couple and
children either or both raised them together
• Remarriage also results in step familie because
most people who remarry are parents, their new
partners become step parents
Advantages of blende family
• It creates a foundation for better financial support
• It can lead to higher level of happiness
• Personalized support
• Provide a better role model
Disadvantages of blende family
• It can lead to bitter siblings
• Most kids will struggle to share parents
• Can great moments of identity confusion
• Kids can have mixed feelings about their step
parents
• Financial difficulties
Compound family
• It consists of a man (head of household);his wives
and concubines who live in different homesteads
with their children. In this case wives become head
of their own respective household while the man
rules and run all households
Advantages of house hold
families
• Reduces individual stress and promote happiness
• The feeling of togetherness
• Members learn the art of sharing
• Love and care
Disadvantages of compound
family
• Lack of privacy
• There may be disagreements
• There may be a lot of visitors at home
• Grand parents may interfere when not needed
Patriarchal family
• In this kind of family structure,decision
makingauthority and power liesbin the hands of the
man,whether it is a nuclear family, single family or
extended family, male headed family are obtained
in many societies and in th absence of the
elders,the son becomes the leader of the house
Advantages of patriarchal family
• Respect from the family
• They are able to solve different disputes between
the heirs of the property
Disadvantages of patriarchal
family
• Inequality- women are not given equal rights

• Insecure environment where females hold less


power criminal offense, physical and mental abuse
and more other cultures
Matriarchal mily
• This is the family of female headed.Here the
authority is vested on the woman, resulting
especially where the man or husband of a women
has died
Advantages of matriarchal family
• Women are superior
• Women are more intelligent
• Women are matured quickly
• Women are more logical
• Women are diplomatic
Disadvantages of matriarchal
family
• Men are being violatent
• Gossiping due to a lot of free time boredom
• Lack of security and safety
Egalitarian family
• Describes an arrangement in the family where
power and making authority equally distributed
between the husbands and wife. In recent times,
women now share equal authority with men in the
family as they jointly contributed to the welfare of
the family
Advantages of egalitarian family
• Both husband and wife contributed equally and
share recognition for success
Disadvantages of egalitarian
family
• Lack of leadership-No authority figures to take
control of situations.
