VOLCANIC

ERUPTION
What is VOLCANIC ERUPTION?

It is a natural phenomenon in which the

molten rock material also known as “ magma “
comes out from a hole or a fissure and it brings
pyroclastic, dust and gases along with it.

Two Style of VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS

1. EXPLOSIVE
2. EFFUSIVE
EXPLOSIVE
Explosive eruption occur where cooler more viscous
magmas reach the surface. Dissolve gasses cannot escape as
easily, so pressure may build up until gas explosion blast
rock and lava fragments into the air. Lava flows are much
more thick and sticky so do not flow downhill as easily.
These eruption build up more steeply-sloping.
EFFUSIVE
Effusive eruptions occur when hot, runny basalt magmas
reach the surface. Dissolved gasses escape easily as the
magma erupts, forming lava that flows downhill quite easily.
Also build up gently- sloping.
VOLCANOES can classified as:
Active
Dormant
Extinct
ACTIVE
Active volcanoes- have a recent history of
eruptions; they are likely to erupt again.
- is a volcano that has had at
least one eruption during the past 10,000
years. An active volcano might be erupting or
dormant.
DORMANT & ERUPTING
Dormant volcanoes- have not erupted for
a very long time but may erupt at a future
time. An active volcano that is not
erupting, but supposed to erupt again.
Erupting volcanoes - is an active volcano
that is having an eruption.
EXTINCT
Extinct volcanoes – has not had an eruption for
at least 10,000 years and is not expected to
erupt again in a comparable time scale of the
future.
How does volcanoes affect Humans and
Environment?
Volcanoes cause a lot of damage to humans and the environment. Because it
triggers floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, rock falls and mudslides. When it erupts, it
leaves devastating consequences for the people and the regions near it.
The volcanic eruption leaves behind a complete extinction of the landscape. It
destroys building and flight paths. Moreover, poisonous gases are released, which
kills plants and animals, resulting in illness and death. The aftermath of the
eruption causes the skies to turn into dark clouds. Then it results in heavy winds
and rain, which can occur for months. Anyone who breathes the air can suffer from
severe breathing problems.
Though the volcanic eruption has adverse effects on the landscape. It also has
some positive outcomes as it produces rich fertile soil for growing crops and a
distinctive volcanic rock called a pumice stone. It is the only known rock that can
float in water.
What to do?
BEFORE DURING
Have your emergency kit ready for Evacuate or shelter in place
evacuation Stay out of restricted zones
Review the city's evacuation routes Follow any evacuation orders issued by
authorities
Gas up your car and charge all
devices If you're caught in ash fall:
 Wear dusk mask
Stay tuned to the local media
Protect eyes
Stay indoors
Keep as much skin covered as possible
What to do?
AFTER
Use mask when cleaning
Wait for further announcements
related to volcanic activities.
 When in your house, clean
everything and check if there's
damages incurred.
