Surface Examinations

• No exterior painting or
interior finishing shall be
done under conditions
which jeopardize the
quality or appearance of
painting or finishing.

PREPARATION
• All surfaces shall be in proper
condition to receive the finish.
Woodwork shall be hand-sand
prepared and dusted clean.
• All knotholes, pitch pockets, or sappy
portions shall shellacked or sealed with
knot sealer.
• Nail holes, cracks or defects shall be
carefully puttied after the first coat with
putty matching the color of the stain or
paint.

Interior Woodwork
• Finishes shall be sand
papered between coats,
cracks, holes for
imperfections in plaster
shall be filled with patching
plaster and smoothed off
to matched the adjoining
surfaces.

1.Inspecting Wooden Surface for Painting
• Prepare hammer and nail

• Inspect the area to make sure that


the carpenter had finished the
carpentry works already

• See to it the surface has been


nailed already.

2.Performing Nail Setting
• Prepare hammer
• Perform nail setting and make
sure that hammer head will
not leave marks on the surface.

3.Performing Fine Sanding
• Prepare body filler
• Prepare a scraper and a putty
knife.
• Mix body filler could be
enough for the given surface
• Perform patching until all
contoured, crooked surfaces
will be leveled off.

Concrete Surface for Painting

Procedure in Cleaning Concrete Surfaces Before Painting

• Inspecting concrete
surface for painting:
• Inspect the area to make sure that
the masonry works had been
finished.
• Ask the mason how long does the
masonry work have been finished.
• If the masonry works is newly
finished; keep it dry for about 150
hours or 1 week.

2.Clean the Surface
• Perform sanding to rough,
uneven portions.
• Remove/scrape off excess
concrete mixtures
• See to it the surface is free of
dirt.

3.Treat Surface with Concrete Neutralizer

• Measure given surface area to


be treated
• Mix neutralizer according to
the area measurement
• Apply concrete neutralizer.
Let it dry over night
