WOMEN’S DAY!
International Women's Day (IWD) is a global celebration
that takes place annually on March 8th. It's a day
dedicated to recognizing the achievements and
contributions of women to society, as well as advocating
for gender equality and women's rights. It serves as a
reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and
highlights the need to address issues such as gender-
based discrimination, violence against women, and
unequal access to opportunities and resources.
International Women's Day is celebrated through various
events, activities, and campaigns around the world
aimed at raising awareness, promoting gender equality,
and empowering women.
02 . Origin
WHOA!
The origins of International Women's Day trace back to the early 20th
century when women's movements in various countries started
campaigning for better working conditions, suffrage, and equal rights.
The first National Woman's Day was observed in the United States on
February 28, 1909, organized by the Socialist Party of America.…
THE ORIGIN
The idea to establish an international day to
honor women was proposed by Clara Zetkin, a
German socialist, at the International
Conference of Working Women in 1910. The
following year, on March 19, 1911,
International Women's Day was celebrated for
the first time in several European countries, with
rallies and demonstrations demanding women's
rights to work, vote, and hold public office.
- In 1913, March 8th was designated as the
official date for International Women's Day, and it
has been observed on this date ever since.
Throughout the 20th century, IWD grew in
significance, becoming a rallying point for
women's movements around the world.
03 . Celebrations
- Today, International Women's Day is
celebrated globally with various events,
including marches, conferences, panel
discussions, performances, and workshops. It
serves as a reminder of the progress made
toward gender equality, as well as the ongoing
challenges women face, such as discrimination,
gender-based violence, and unequal access to
opportunities.
- Each year, International Women's Day has a
theme that highlights different aspects of gender
equality and women's empowerment. It continues
to be a day of reflection, celebration, and action,
inspiring individuals and organizations to work
towards a more inclusive and equitable world for
all genders.
