application for digital
photos. It is used to crop and touch up photos,
as well as organize them into albums and
slide shows. Photo editors typically do not
have the myriad filters and features of a full-
blown image editors such as Adobe’s
Photoshop.

CROPPING
Is the removal of the outer parts of an image to
improve framing, accentuate subject matter or
change aspect ratio. Depending on the
application, this may be performed on a physical
photograph, artwork or film footage, or achieved
digitally using image editing software. The
practice is common to the film, broadcasting,
photographic, graphic design, and printing
industries

COMPRESSION
When you have cropped and edited your
image, so you have it looking just the
way you like, the next stage is to resize
and compress it to the optimum size for
the use you intend it for.

Automatic image
enhancement (Auto-
Enhance) is a feature built
into CANVA. It will improve
the printed results of most
images by slightly lightening
and sharpening your images.

backgrounds.
 LAYERS
In graphics software, a layer is the
term used to describe the
different levels at which you
can place an object or image
file. In the program you can
stack, merge ordefine layers
when creating a digital image.
SELECTIONS
The selection tools are used to
facilitate the process of making
selections of shapes, colors and
objects inside of Photoshop, and
positioning them in the working
image area. With tools like the
magnetic lasso and magic wand,
Photoshop packs a powerful
array of selection gadgets
Resolution
The resolution of an image is the number of
pixels per unit of measurement- usually the
number of pixels per inch (ppi) or pixels per
centimeter (ppcm). If your image is 72 pixels
wide and you tell it to be 72 pixels per inch,
then its an inch wide.
IMAGE SIZE
The image size (or pixel
dimensions) of an image is a
measure of the number of pixels
along an image’s width and height.
For example, your digital camera
may take a photo that is 1500
pixels wide and 1000 pixels high.
