 To discover new facts and verification of the old
ones
 Research helps in solving problems

 It helps in developing a theory

 Also helps in disapproving a theory

 Research also helps in describing a phenomena

Definition of Research
 Research is an organized and systematic way of finding
answers to the questions
o Systematic: because there is a definite set of procedures and
steps which you will follow
o Organized: because it is a planned procedure, not a
spontaneous one
o Finding answers is the end of all research. Whether it is the
answer to a hypothesis or even a simple question
o Questions are central to research. Research is focused on
relevant, useful, and important questions

 Desire to get a research degree along with its consequential
benefits

 Desire to face the challenge in solving the unsolved problems

 Desire to get intellectual joy of doing some creative work

 Desire to be of service to society

 Desire to get respectability

 Directives of government, employment conditions etc.

 Research methodology is the way in which research
problems are solved systematically
