CLASSIFICATION OF NOISE

NOISE
-Noise is a fundamental aspect of electronics and telecommunications

-Noise: Electrical disturbances that interfere with signals in electronics and

telecommunications .
- Characterized by disruptions in signal transmission, leading to unwanted variations and
interference.
-Ubiquitous in nature, continually present and impacting the performance of systems.

-Measurement of noise is contentious due to the diversity of methods used and

interpretations of its effects.
2 CATEGORIES OF NOISE

External Noise

&
Internal Noise
EXTERNAL NOISE

External noise refers to the various forms of noise generated

outside the receiver.
INTERNAL NOISE

the noise that is generated within the components of the

communication system, such as amplifiers, transmitters,
receivers, or wires.
THERMAL NOISE

Arises from the random motion of electrons within

conductors and components, proportional to temperature.
CROSSTALK
Occurs when signals leak from one communication channel
to another, often due to inadequate isolation.
IMPULSE NOISE

Short-duration bursts of interference caused by external

sources or faulty equipment.
RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE (RFI)

External electromagnetic signals that interfere with

communication frequencies.
ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE

Natural sources such as atmospheric disturbances and

cosmic radiation affecting signal quality.
EQUIPMENT NOISE

Noise introduced by the internal components of

telecommunication equipment, such as amplifiers or
transmitters.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
EXTERNAL NOISE
1. ATMOSPHERIC NOISE
Atmospheric noise or static is caused by lighting discharges
in thunderstorms and other natural electrical disturbances
occurring in the atmosphere
2. EXTRATERRESTRIAL NOISE
This type of noise originate from the sources which exist
outside the earth's atmosphere.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF
EXTRATERRESTRIAL NOISE
A. SOLAR NOISE
Solar noise can interfere with radio, television, microwave, and
lightwave communications. All solar radiation is electromagnetic.
The infrared and visible wavelengths are perhaps the most
beneficial. The higher frequencies may destroy living tissue and
can cause genetic changes.
B. COSMIC NOISE
When the directional antenna is pointed towards the sky to
receive the signal, other than the desired signal it also
receives random noise from the galaxy.
3. INDUSTRIAL NOISE

Sources of Industrial noise are auto-mobiles, aircraft,

ignition of electric motors and switching gear
